CHARLIZE THERON TALKS ABOUT MIXING WORK AND ROMANCE Blog

Charlize Theron says it was great to be directed by boyfriend Stuart Townsend in their new film Battle in Seattle – except when it wasn't.
"No matter what I say, people think I am biased because I sleep with him," Theron joked with reporters in New York City Sept. 17. "It was great. He loved directing and I've never seen him so happy – which hurts my feelings as his girlfriend!"
Townsend, 35, Theron's boyfriend of seven years, makes his writing and directorial debut with the drama about the 1999 World Trade Organization meeting in Seattle and protesters who brought the city's streets to a standstill. Theron, 33, says Townsend spent five years writing and preparing for his labor of love. "We would go on vacation to Fiji," she says, "and I would be like, 'Romance time!' But he would have a pile of research and I would be like, 'Oh my God, this is so not sexy!' But that passion paid off."
For the Irish actor turned director, working with his real-life leading lady was fun, and occasionally embarrassing. "She called me by my pet name a couple of times," Townsend says. "The crew then started to call me by my pet name and I said to them, 'That's not cool. I'm trying to be a serious director here.'"
And what exactly is that pet name? "I can't tell you," says Townsend.

CHARLIZE THERON: "I HAVE SEVEN CHILDREN NOBODY KNOWS ABOUT" Blog

Charlize Theron still hasn't changed her mind on wedding beau Stuart Townsend.
"I just know I don't want it, Stuart doesn't want it," she said on Wednesday's The View while promoting their new film Battle in Seattle. "Why mess with a good thing?"
"Even when I was little," Theron, 33, continued, "I never dreamed about walking down the aisle."
See photos of more stars who say they won't wed.
(She previously told Glamour: "I am not judgmental about marriage. I am judgmental about how our government doesn't want to see the reality of gay and lesbian marriages.")
Still, she said, "I always wanted to be a mom because I have always had such a close relationship with my own mom."
Check out Hollywood's sexiest moms.
So when is she having kids?
"Okay, let me break it to you," she said, leaning forward on the couch. "I actually have seven children nobody knows about."
"Where are they - in Alaska?" asked Joy Behar.
"In a cave," Theron joked. Then, taking a swipe at Gov. Sarah Palin, she added, "and they can see Russia."

LOOK OUT, TORONTO: HERE COME BRAD PITT & JENNIFER ANISTON Blog

Burning question No. 1 at this year's Toronto International Film Festival, which kicks off Thursday: Will exes Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston cross paths?
They arrive on different days, but in the movie biz, anything is possible. Pitt is due in Canada, sans Angelina Jolie, to hype Burn After Reading, his new Coen Brothers comedy with George Clooney. Aniston, meanwhile, will be talking up Management, a romantic comedy in which she's wooed by Steve Zahn and Woody Harrelson.
But those are just two of the 249 feature films set to screen and a few of the stars – cue Dakota Fanning, Ricky Gervais and Charlize Theron – set to shine over the 10-day festival, which has come to serve Hollywood as the annual unofficial launch of the Oscar race. Here is a short list of the films featuring younger stars that are among the most highly anticipated flicks at the festival:
• After scoring big at last year's festival with Juno, Superbad's Michael Cera returns with Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist. He plays a music-obsessed youth who finds love when he least expects it during a visit to New York City. The movie opens Oct. 3.
• In Rachel Getting Married, Anne Hathaway stars as a woman who, following a stint in rehab, returns to her idyllic Connecticut hometown for the wedding of her older sister Rachel. Jonathan Demme (Silence of the Lambs) directed the comedic family drama, which opens in limited markets Oct. 3.
• Keira Knightley again dons sumptuous period petticoats and gowns for her title role in The Duchess, a biopic about Georgiana Spencer, a scandalous 18th century English aristocrat. Her costars include Ralph Fiennes and Charlotte Rampling. It opens Sept. 19.
• Irishman Colin Farrell works on his New Yawk accent in Pride and Glory, a crime drama in which he and Edward Norton star as brothers who are NYPD cops. Family bonds are tested as they uncover something rotten in the Big Apple. The film, which was scheduled to open earlier this year, is now set for release Oct. 24.
• Wedding Crashers star Rachel McAdams teams up with Tim Robbins and Michael Peña in The Lucky Ones, a drama about three soldiers returning home to the U.S. after serving in Iraq. The film, due to open Sept. 26, has been sitting on the shelf for months after Hollywood became hesitant following the box office failure of several war-themed movies – Rendition, Lions for Lambs, Stop-Loss – in late 2007 and early 2008.
• Rising British heartthrob Jim Sturgess (Across the Universe and 21) portrays a young Irishman in Belfast in the 1980s who finds himself unintentionally caught between the British Army and the IRA in Fifty Dead Men Walking. Ben Kingsley and Rose McGowan costar. The film does not yet have a U.S. release date.

REPORTER PROPOSES TO CHARLIZE THERON IN VENICE Blog

Actress Charlize Theron fielded an unexpected question at a press conference in Venice for her new film, The Burning Plain: a marriage proposal!
"I would like to ask you something Charlize Theron," the reporter began. "First of all, I really like you so much and have a lot of respect for you but I would like to marry you -- and I have a question: which side [of the bed] do you prefer to sleep [on]?"
The 33-year-old Academy Award winner -- whose longtime boyfriend is actor/director Stuart Townsend -- quipped: "The side that you are not on."
The reporter was rebuffed. "Oh, then I think it doesn't work," he said.
"Security! Security! Security!" Theron joked. "The man with the red... you are very cute, but you know my boyfriend will kill you."
See photos of celebs who say no to marriage.
"Yeah, I am married, I am taken, whatever," she added. "How much money do you have?"
"I am poor," the journalist responded.
But Theron still entertained the offer.
"See, we are gonna have to talk about that," she said. "I will talk to you later. I have something for you, you are ready? Ananas [meaning pineapple]. There you go, sit down."

"If you ready for Obama, make some noise," he added, "Yo man, let's do this for Obama."
The duo then performed their tune "Gold Digger."

CAUGHT IN THE ACT! Blog

• A chic Charlize Theron, sitting in the front row before a screening of boyfriend Stuart Townsend's political movie Battle in Seattle, showing at Denver's Starz FilmCenter as part of the events surrounding the Democratic National Convention. There with Townsend, who directed the flick about the riots during the World Trade Organization talks, Theron – who also stars in it – spoke on a panel with labor organizers who were directly involved with the event. The film was introduced by Sen. Sherrod Brown of Ohio.
• Jennifer Lopez, hosting a luncheon for Marian Wright Edelman of the Children's Defense Fund at the Denver Art Museum. The actress posed for pictures in her two-piece pink suit on a bridge between the old and new portions of the museum. Lopez also waved to a handful of fans before hopping into her limo and speeding away.
• Ashley Judd, sharing a quick word with President Bill Clinton backstage at the Pepsi Center following Hillary Clinton's keynote speech.
• Anne Hathaway, making friends with
actress-singer Zooey Deschanel at a Going Green reception
benefiting the arts advocacy organization Creative Coalition. After
laughing through interviews, the two ran into La Rumba Restaurant where they
chatted with Ellen Burstyn over ice water. Soon, though, talk
turned to music. "I think a great campaign song, Elton John would write it,"
Hathaway, who also sings, told us. But what about her new friend? "Zooey
Deschanel [would] help out on the vocals and the tambourine, and
maybe Madonna [would do] a dance." And Hathaway's job? "I'd
just be cheering and enjoying it," she said.

BEN AFFLECK'S DEMOCRATIC CONVENTION PLAN: POKER! Blog

Ben Affleck is upping his stake in politics – with poker.
The Oscar winner, 36, will be in Denver this week for the Democratic National Convention, where he'll be celebrating at more than one political party. Among his official duties: performing at a roundtable event for SeaChange Ideas Forum, packing food for the needy and playing poker to benefit paralyzed veterans.
Colorado first lady Jeannie Ritter, who joins Affleck and Barack Obama's wife Michelle on Wednesday to box produce for the charity America's Second Harvest, tells PEOPLE that Affleck's celebrity, "right or wrong, gives us our traction." But, while she and her teenage children look forward to meeting the onetime Sexiest Man Alive, Ritter says it "pales in comparison" to being with Michelle Obama.Affleck won't be second choice on Tuesday night when he sits down with pros Andy Bloch and Barry Greenstein to play Poker at the Ballpark, with the proceeds going toward the Paralyzed Veterans of America. Other celebs such as Paul Rudd, Sarah Silverman and Seth Meyers are also expected to ante-up at the VIP tournament sponsored by the Poker Players Alliance.

GEORGE CLOONEY, BRAD PITT EXPECTED IN VENICE Blog

How do you say "star-struck" in Italian?
George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Anne Hathaway and Charlize Theron are among the celebrities expected on the red carpet at this year's Venice Film Festival.
The 65th annual festival opens August 27 with the out-of-competition premiere of Joel and Ethan Coen's Burn After Reading, starring Coen favorite Clooney and his pal Pitt. (The pair also appeared at last year's festival, with Clooney memorably debuting then-girlfriend Sarah Larson.)
Next month's festival is expected to be Pitt's first major public event since the birth of his twins with Angelina Jolie. The newly single Hathaway – who appeared at the 2006 festival with The Devil Wears Prada – is expected to be there to promote Rachel Getting Married, a film about an ex-model who's been in and out of rehab for 10 years, then comes home for her sister's wedding.
