Former Tonight Show sidekick Ed McMahon has escaped the prospect of foreclosure by selling his gated, six-bedroom Beverly Hills estate.
Though Donald Trump offered to buy the property – which is in Britney Spears' neighborhood – McMahon's rep said the real estate mogul was not the buyer.
In June, news broke that McMahon, 85, defaulted on $4.8 million in mortgage loans with Countrywide Financial Corp.
He has not worked for about 18 months due to a neck injury.
The 62-year-old Trump — who doesn't know McMahon — had said making the deal "would be an honor" because "I'd watch him every night."
Trump asked, "How could this happen?"

Ed McMahon may soon have a famous new landlord.
On Thursday, Donald Trump announced that he will buy McMahon's gated, six-bedroom Beverly Hills estate, saving it from foreclosure.
He told the Los Angeles Times that he is buying it for an undisclosed amount – it was listed at $4.6 million last weekend, down from a peak price of $7 million — and lease it to the famous TV personality.
The 62-year-old Trump — who doesn't know McMahon, 85 — said making the deal "would be an honor."
"When I was at the Wharton School of Business, I'd watch him every night," Trump told the Times. "How could this happen?"

Looks like financially beleaguered Ed McMahon will have a new landlord: Donald Trump.
The tycoon says he will save the veteran television personality's Beverly Hills mansion from foreclosure by buying it – and leasing it back to the octogenarian.
Trump, who does not know McMahon personally, said it "would be an honor" to help out the man who spent three decades as Johnny Carson's sidekick on The Tonight Show. "When I was at the Wharton School of Business I'd watch him every night."
McMahon, 85, bought the six-bedroom house in January 1990. Down from a peak price of $7 million, the property was listed at a bargain $4.6 million last weekend, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Paperwork on the sale has not been completed, but McMahon was "very optimistic" the deal would go through, his spokesman told the Associated Press.– Caris Davis

Vanessa tells PEOPLE she is 3 ½ months pregnant and due in February.

The Trumps already have a baby girl, Kai Madison, born in May 2007. "I'm feeling very tired – the first time around I could put my feet up and relax. This time I have a baby to run after and carry."
How is Kai taking the news of a sibling? "I point to my belly, and tell her there's a baby in my belly," says Vanessa. "She points to her belly button and thinks there's a baby there. I say, 'Not for you, for mama.' "

Donald Trump, move over: Nicolas Cage is staking his own claim as a real-estate mogul.
The National Treasure leading man, 44, has put his 14,306-sq.-ft. Las Vegas residence with its seven bedrooms and 16-car garage on the market for an asking price of $9.95 million, the Wall Street Journal reports.
The house offers views of The Strip and features a pool, elevator and movie theater, says the paper. The listing for the house also says it has five full bathrooms and one half-bathroom. Cage actually put out the "For Sale" sign late last fall, after having purchased the property in 2006 for $8.5 million. He also bought a home nearby for $2.25 million, and sold it last year for $2.3 million.
Over the past few years, Cage has also bought and sold homes in Bavaria, England, San Francisco, New Orleans, Rhode Island, Bath, England – and Newport Beach, Calif., where Cage's house sold for a record $35 million.
