| NICOLE KIDMAN STEPS OUT FOR ELLE'S WOMEN IN HOLLYWOOD TRIBUTE Blog |
Nicole Kidman joined Hollywood's biggest actresses – including Halle Berry, Anne Hathaway and Jennifer Lopez – for the 15th Annual Women in Hollywood Tribute Monday night in L.A.
Kidman, Hathaway and Berry were among the women who took home Icon Awards at the dinner and ceremony, hosted by Elle magazine at the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills.
In one of her first public appearances since giving birth in July to daughter Sunday Rose, Kidman arrived sans husband Keith Urban, and wearing a Prada minidress. "It's nice to be a part of a celebration," she told PEOPLE. "It's a lovely time to be working in Hollywood." At the awards ceremony later, her Bewitched costar Shirley Maclaine presented Kidman with her award and marveled, "She's in the Meryl Streep category in my opinion. She's, maybe with Meryl, the two best."
Kidman's fellow Aussie actress Isla Fisher also gushed about her. "She's kind of the acting equivalent of a nine-gang jujitsu master yellow belt," said Fisher.
The Wedding Crashers actress accepted the Calvin Klein Spotlight Award from pal Courteney Cox, who called Fisher "a truly amazing mother" as Fisher's fiancè, Borat star Sacha Baron Cohen, proudly filmed her acceptance speech on a handheld camera.
Meanwhile, a Roberto Cavailli-clad Berry, who brought her boyfriend Gabriel Aubry, beamed as Diane Keaton welcomed her on stage. She told the celeb-packed audience about how Keaton wrote an inspirational note to her after her Oscar win for Monster's Ball, which she often refers to. "I always go back to those words Diane, that winning wasn't everything."
Hathaway, who wore Marc Jacobs, described the evening as "wonderous-strange." The actress also wore her heart on her sleeve as she accepted her award from her Get Smart director, Peter Segal: "Jane Fonda and Diane Keaton, you won't find a woman in this room who won't kiss your feet, myself included," she gushed. "And should any of the honorees need an organ, call me."
The evening's other attendees included Leah Remini, Eva Mendes, Kate Beckinsale, Jenny McCarthy, Kerry Washington, Nicolette Sheridan, Sheryl Crowe and Sharon Osbourne.

What does Eva Mendes think about the ruckus over her banned commercial for Calvin Klein's Secret Obsession?
"I love my country, but I believe that we are too quick to censor nudity," the actress, 34, tells the Spanish edition of Vogue in its November issue. "We seem okay with violence, but nudity we race to criticize and censor. I'm not at all ashamed or frightened about showing my body."
Asked how she feels about being considered a sex object, Mendes says: "I love it, but it's not important to me to always be thought of as sexy. I like it when it doesn't limit my career. It's a part of my life, but on a secondary plane." The secret to her sexy shape? Simple: Diet and exercise. "I try not to go crazy, but yes, I pay attention to what I eat," she says. (Since her stint in rehab earlier this year, Mendes has been outspoken about taking care of herself.) "I try to stay away from pasta, bread, cakes, sweets, cookies and ice cream."
The actress – currently starring in The Women – also touches on a rather less sexy aspect of herself. Asked about her Latin temperament, she says: "I don't usually lose my temper, but if I get angry, it's true – I'm scary. I scare my boyfriend!"

Perhaps it's because she recently tied the knot herself, but Ellen DeGeneres seemed to be in a romantic mood while interviewing Ryan Seacrest for Monday's Ellen DeGeneres Show.
The new bride, 50, presses Seacrest, 33, on why he can't seem to find love, according to excerpts of the show. On a helpful note, she comes up with a suggested date – Eva Mendes – and even offers to set him up with the actress.
"I want to know what love is?" says Seacrest, who at the end of last year told PEOPLE his goal for 2008 was to make time for a personal life.
When he protests that he's still too busy, Seacrest is warned by DeGeneres, "You're going to wait too long and get in a rut being single. It's going to be hard to open up and share your life with somebody, because you have your way of doing things. You have to let go and be with someone. You're a great guy. You're funny, you're smart …"
"You're calling me old," interjects Seacrest.
"You're getting old," agrees DeGeneres. That's when she takes out some photos to show him.
"They don't know about this," she says of the possible love interests she places before Seacrest, "but just as an idea of who would you choose out of these woman right here."
Among the photos, besides Mendes's, are those of Pamela Anderson, Britney Spears, Carrie Underwood and Jennifer Aniston.
Goes Right to Eva"You have Eva," points out Seacrest. "She's gorgeous, and Jennifer is great, too."
"You're saying Eva Mendes, who you go to right away," notes DeGeneres.
"Yeah, I kind of went there first," says Seacrest. "I like Carrie, but then I kind of feel like she is part of Idol thing, so I don't l know if that's the right thing to do, to think about her in that way."
Examining Spears's photo, he says, "She looks like the sister (Jamie Lynn) there, because I was going to say she's young and obviously there's enough going on, and that's not for me."
As for Aniston, "I don't know Jennifer," says Seacrest.
Which brings DeGeneres back to Mendes. "I think she's great," concurs Seacrest. "What's she like?"
"She's great," says DeGeneres. "Would you like me to set you up with her?"
He says, "Yeah." She says, "Okay."

On Friday's Ellen DeGeneres Show, she agreed to fix up Ryan Seacrest after he lamented about his lackluster love life.
He said he has been "so busy" he hasn't had time to look for love.
"Yes, but you're going to wait too long and get in a rut being single," said DeGeneres, who wed Portia de Rossi this past summer.
DeGeneres then held up photos of famous women -- Pam Anderson, Britney Spears, Carrie Underwood, Eva Mendes and Jennifer Aniston -- and asked Seacrest to pick one.

He chose Mendes first.
"She's gorgeous," he said. "Yeah, I kind of went there first. I like Carrie, but then I kind of feel like she is part of the Idol thing, so I don’t know if that's the right thing to do."

Spears, he said, "is young and obviously there's enough going on and that's not for me."
But Mendes, he went on, "is great."
"Would you like me to set you up with her?" DeGeneres asked.
"Yeah," said Seacrest.
For now, Seacrest has one famous lady in his life: Paris Hilton. On Friday, he announced that they will develop a new scripted series together.

• Anne Hathaway, singing with her Devil Wears Prada costar and pal Emily Blunt during an impromptu performance at Hollywood hot spot Green Door lounge. After spending most of the night having drinks and chatting at a table in the venue's "library" with Blunt, friend Teresa Michalina and a group of male companions, the actress – sporting a striped white blouse, skinny jeans and heels – made her way hand-in-hand with Blunt to the jazz band. The two crooned their way through a duet, then Hathaway and Michalina played backup singer for Blunt while the audience clapped and cheered. The group finally left the near-empty venue a little after 2 a.m.
• Eva Mendes, chowing down on a healthy tofu scramble with veggie sausage and egg whites while having breakfast at Hollywood eatery Kitchen 24. The actress, who was clad in jeans and a baseball cap, chatted with a male companion as she sipped coffee.
• Brody Jenner, celebrating his 25th birthday (which is on Aug. 21) at West Hollywood lounge Coco de Ville. It looked like a scene out of The Hills as the birthday boy took shots with Doug Reinhardt and was later joined by BFF Frankie Delgado and Lauren Conrad, who arrived with new man Kyle Howard and Whitney Port. Though Conrad mingled with Brody and his friends, her focus was clearly on Howard. The pair held hands, talked closely and kissed throughout the evening. At 1 a.m., the whole crew sang "Happy Birthday" to Jenner as a huge cake with sparklers and candles appeared, and they toasted him with Dom Perignon before the party moved on to Delgado and Reinhardt's Hollywood Hills house.
• Andre Agassi and wife Steffi Graf, arriving at the Flor de Caña party at East Hampton, N.Y., club Lily Pond. The couple – who had attended a benefit earlier in the night – "took one turn on the dance floor before they slipped back into their chauffeured driven car," a source tells us.
• Leonardo DiCaprio, feasting with pals at Brand Steakhouse at the Monte Carlo Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. It was a guys' night out for the actor, who dined on King crab scampi, Kobe beef carpaccio, sea bass, salmon, filet mignon and a host of sides, including lobster mashed potatoes and asparagus. After his mammoth meal, DiCaprio and his posse headed to The Bank club inside the Bellagio to work off all those calories.
• Ethan Hawke, having a family day out with wife Ryan Shawhughes and 4-week-old daughter Clementine Jane in the Hamptons. The trio stopped into Indian Wells Tavern in Amagansett, N.Y., for lunch, and Clementine took to napping.

Eva Mendes' new ad for Calvin Klein fragrance Secret Obsession is too hot for TV!
The commercial — featuring a nude Mendes, 34, rolling around on an unmade bed — can only air on networks after 9 p.m.
It was originally banned in the U.S. altogether, before a cleaner, edited version was created.
The ad's creative director, Fabien Baron, tells WWD that Mendes is being "a little sexy," but insists the ads "are not provocative.
"They are really well done. The spot is really beautiful — I really can't believe this is happening."
Baron blamed President Bush for the censorship.
"This country really needs a new president — this country is so messed up," he said. “It’s such a joke, and it’s quite upsetting, frankly, how hypocritical this country has become. It’s OK for children to see people killed by guns? Spreading a little love right now would be a good idea."

in his arms while waiting to board his flight back to L.A. from Dallas with
Nicole Richie. "Nicole was smiling and literally skipped
over to Joel, and he handed Harlow to her," says an onlooker. "They looked like an adorable family." When it was time to take
off, the happy family – plus a younger, tattooed guy and an older
blonde female companion – took their seats in first class.
"The baby was wide eyed, watching everyone walk onto the plane," the
onlooker tells us.
• Matt Damon, grabbing some Mexican food at
Paquito's Mexican Restaurant in Aventura, Fla. The actor, who sported a
trucker hat and sunglasses on top of his head, dined with his wife, their
daughter and another woman. According to an eyewitness, Damon fed their
daughter Isabella, 2, and laughed with her as she sat in her highchair.

Jennifer Garner, dining alfresco at the
Mandarin Oriental. The twosome enjoyed salads on the terrace of the hotel's

outdoor show at L.A.'s Greek Theatre. Vince Vaughnchatted closely with a beautiful brunette before the concert, and later, at
intermission, held court as fans and friends gathered to talk to him near
his table. But when she was singing, Parton had the crowd entertained:
Katherine Heigl and Josh Kelleyclapped and sang along from their seats, about 10 rows from the stage.
Nearby, Rose McGowan, in a yellow frock, stood up to clap and dance
along too. Even Jackass star Johnny Knoxville showed his
Parton fandom. He was spotted checking out Dolly tees and talking animatedly
to concertgoers.
• Eva Mendes, letting down her convertible top and
cranking up her stereo for a spin in her sleek, black Mercedes. "She was
driving, top down, hair flowing, music playing," an observer tells us. "She
just looked relaxed, and happy."

Eva Mendes has checked into rehab,
"Eva has been working hard for the past year and made a positive decision to take some much-needed time off to proactively attend to some personal issues that, while not critical, she felt deserved some outside professional support," her rep tells Us in a statement.
"Out of respect for Eva’s privacy, we do not wish to discuss further details."
Mendes, 33, is battling a substance abuse problem and has been staying at Utah's Cirque Lodge — where both Lindsay Lohan and Mary-Kate Olsen were treated — "for several weeks."
The actress, who was last seen on the big screen in October's gritty crime drama We Own the Night, was recently tapped to appear in an upcoming ad campaign for a Calvin Klein fragrance. She is expected to be featured in print and TV ads this fall.
