He's no stranger to drug abuse. Now Boy George is speaking out to encourage troubled singers Amy Winehouse and George Michael to get clean.
"When I look at Amy and George, I know where they are, I know what they are," he tells Britain's The Times. "I know what it's like to be clacking, sweaty and chaotic and to have no clarity."
Boy George, who had a heroin addiction in the 1980s, insists he finally kicked cocaine last year. His advice to his fellow Brits? "Seek the wisdom to soothe the soul."Winehouse's troubles have been well documented. Michael, meanwhile, was most recently arrested last month.
Boy George, 47, is not without his own problems. He is due back in a London court in November to face a charge of false imprisonment. "I will be pleading not guilty, of course," he says. "I'm living in the moment. I know it's coming but I'm not worrying about it."
Asked if there could be another descent into drugs if the court sends him to jail, Boy George is adamant. "No. I'm clean and I'm staying that way. I have a lot of clarity in my life."

George Michael was arrested Friday for allegedly possessing crack cocaine and marijuana, BBC News reports.
The singer, 45, was busted in a bathroom in London's Hampstead Heath area after an attendant tipped police.
He was released with a warning, termed a "caution" in the U.K.
"We can confirm a 45-year-old man was arrested in the Hampstead Heath area on the 19th of September on the suspicion of possessing drugs," a Scotland Yard spokesman said. "He was taken to a North London police station where he received a caution and was released with no further action. The caution was for the possession of Class A and Class C drugs, cocaine and cannabis."
It is unclear why he has been given a relatively mild punishment for the possession of class A drugs.
In a statement Michael said: "I want to apologise to my fans for screwing up again, and to promise them I'll sort myself out. And to say sorry to everybody else, just for boring them."

It isn't Michael's first drug bust.
He was found slumped over the wheel of his car in London in 2006 (he later admitted driving while unfit due to drugs).
He opened up about his drug problems last year, telling BBC radio that he was aware he smoked too much marijuana and was trying to fight his addiction.
"In a strange way I've spent the last 15 to 20 years trying to derail my own career, but it never seems to suffer," he said. "I suffer like crazy. I've suffered bereavements and public humiliations, but my career always seems to right itself like a plastic duck in the bath."

George Michael was arrested in London Friday after being discovered with what police term say were Class A and a Class C drugs, according to reports Sunday.
The singer, 45, was cautioned and has not been charged.
A Scotland Yard press spokesman says, "A 45-year-old man male was arrested on Sept. 19 in the Hampstead Heath area on suspicion of the possession of drugs."
While the statement did not name Michael, other sources confirmed his identity, CNN reports. The spokesman added, "He was taken to a north London police station where he was interviewed and received a caution for possession of Class A and Class C drugs."
While the spokesman also would not identify the type of drugs, reports have said that they included crack cocaine, which is termed a Class A drug in the U.K.
Arrest in Public RestroomThe reports say that Michael, who lives nearby with his long-term partner Kenny Goss, was arrested at an underground public men's room.
It is the latest brush with the law for the singer, whose most notorious arrest was for lewd behavior in Beverly Hills in April 1998.
Two years ago, he was arrested and cautioned for drug possession after being found he was unfit to drive. That followed an incident six months earlier when he was arrested on suspicion of having drugs when he was found slumped at the wheel of his car in London's Hyde Park.
Michael, whose 1987 album Faith spent 12 weeks at No. 1 in the U.S., has just completed what he has called his final world arena tour.

Ellen DeGeneres says Ryan Seacrest played a hand in keeping her August Beverly Hills wedding to Portia de Rossi "lovely and small."

Originally, Justin Timberlake was going to perform a new song he penned for the two.
"That made it get bigger," DeGeneres said Wednesday on Seacrest's KIIS-FM radio show. "We said, 'He can't just sing for our Aunt Helen from Mississippi! We got invite some more!'"

George Michael was going to sing as well.
"It just got bigger and bigger," DeGeneres said. "It was going to be gigantic, and Ryan talked us out of it."
Explained Seacrest: "'Are you sure you're gong to be comfortable with elephants on your grass?' I truly believe people get carried away with the volume of the wedding that they don't enjoy the purpose of the wedding."
"It started from the wrong place," DeGeneres later admitted. "We called and disinvited everyone. They totally understood."
(As for the music, she settled on Joshua Radin, "who was fantastic and was so thrilled and honored," DeGeneres said.)

So how's married life?
"The ol' ball chain won't let me go bowling and hang out with the girls," DeGeneres joked.
Kidding aside, she said being married "is fantastic. I think until you're married you don't know.
"You can have a commitment in your heart," she added, "but there's something about getting married."
