Hayden Panettiere's father, Alan, says his recent arrest was a "misunderstanding."
Following his release on bail Monday, Alan "Skip" Panettiere played down the alleged altercation with his wife, Lesley Vogel, telling Extra that "nothing actually happened."
After a conversation with both Alan and Lesley, Extra host Mario Lopez, a friend of the family, says: "Lesley wasn't even aware that Skip had been arrested. Hayden found out about her dad's arrest when he called her from jail." Panettiere, 49, was arrested at the family's West Hollywood home in the early hours of Monday morning and was booked on a charge of felony domestic violence following a fight with Vogel.
But just hours after Panettiere was released from police custody, the couple united for a very public display of togetherness, smiling as they walked their dogs near the family home on Monday afternoon.
Says Lopez: "They love each other very much and want everyone to know that the matter was completely blown out of proportion."

Hayden Panettiere's parents are downplaying dad Alan's arrest for spousal abuse.
"It was all a big misunderstanding," he and his wife Lesley tell Extra's Mario Lopez.
Although a police report claims Alan struck Lesley three times (leaving a bruise), the couple insist “nothing actually happened.
“[We] love each other very much and want everyone to know that the matter was completely blown out of proportion,” they tell Extra.
Extra reports that Hayden found out about her dad’s arrest when he called her from jail.
Booked on a charge of felony domestic violence, Alan, 49, was arrested at 3:15 a.m. at the family's West Hollywood home. They were spotted arguing at a Hollywood charity benefit earlier in the night.

Alan was released from custody on $50,000 bail Monday afternoon.
"I was with him when he was released, and he was cooperative," Steve Whitmore, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department spokesman, tells Usmagazine.com. "He was also cooperative while he was in custody. And, when he was arrested, it was without incident.”

Hayden Panettiere's father, Alan, was released from custody on $50,000 bail Monday afternoon after being arrested for allegedly striking the actress's mother.
Panettiere, 49, was arrested at 3:15 a.m. at the family's West Hollywood home and spent about 10 hours in Los Angeles County sheriff's custody. He was booked on a charge of felony domestic violence following a fight with wife Lesley Vogel, 52, deputies said.
On Sunday evening, the couple attended a Hollywood charity benefit for the Whaleman Foundation hosted by their daughter at Beso restaurant, and the pair were seen arguing. A sheriff's spokesman says that Alan struck Lesley one or two times on the cheek causing bruising. Another sheriff's official says that alcohol was involved in the incident.
An observer at the party tells PEOPLE: "When they were both about to leave, they had a heated argument outside the restaurant. They were doing a good amount of yelling."

Hayden Panettiere's father, Alan, was arrested early Monday morning at the family's West Hollywood home for felony domestic violence, sheriffs confirm to PEOPLE.
"There was a domestic argument between the mother and father," Sgt. Scott Wolf of the West Hollywood sheriff's said. "He got upset and struck the mother in the face one or two times on the left cheek which caused some bruising. From what I'm told, he hit her with a closed fist.
"The mother called police shortly before 3 a.m., and Mr. Panettiere was taken into custody," Sgt. Wolf added. "He's been cooperative. Earlier, they were at a party and the husband apparently felt disrespected by his wife."On Sunday evening, Hayden hosted a benefit for the Whaleman Foundation at Eva Longoria's Beso restaurant in Hollywood, also attended by her parents.
Wolf said that Alan Panettiere, 49, who has not yet given deputies his version of events, was arrested on the felony charge instead of a misdemeanor because "there were visible signs of injury" on 52-year-old Lesley Vogel's face. TMZ.com first reported the incident.
It's unclear whether either party was intoxicated or if anyone else was home at the time.
Alan Panettiere is currently in custody, pending $50,000 bail.

Hayden Panettiere's father was arrested Monday morning on allegations of spousal abuse, TMZ.com reports.
Alan Panettiere will face a felony count of domestic violence for allegedly hitting wife Lesley in the cheek, leaving a visible mark.
Police were summoned to their West Hollywood home at 3:00 a.m. after the incident, which occurred after the Heroes star, 18, and her parents went to Eva Longoria's restaurant, Beso, for a party.
Lesley reportedly refused to go to the hospital, against advice of paramedics, but cops took pictures of the bruise.
The argument broke out after Alan accused Lesley of "hanging" with someone and "disrespecting" him, TMZ claims.

Hayden – who's dating co-star Milo Ventimiglia – has a warrant out for her arrest in Japan for obstruction of commerce after she attempted to block a pod of dolphins from being led into a nearby cove for massacre by fishermen.
Hayden also has a 13-year-old brother, Jensen.

| MILEY CYRUS IS FERGIE'S CHOICE AT TEEN AWARDS Blog |
Fergie turns out to be as big a Miley Cyrus fan as anybody – as the Black Eyed Peas singer demonstrated at Sunday's 10th annual Teen Choice Awards.
During the Hannah Montana star's opening number – Cyrus hosted the show, at Universal City's Gibson Amphitheatre – she performed her single "7 Things," running in every direction but stopping to deliver a rose to audience member Fergie.
And Fergie's reaction? Just like any other Hannah Montana fan's. She started jumping up and down. Cyrus had three reasons of her own to jump for joy, too – nabbing the prizes – which are surfboard trophies – for choice TV comedy, comic actress and female artist.
Top winner in the TV division was Gossip Girl, whose six awards included those for choice drama and breakout show – while its star, Chace Crawford was named choice breakout actor; Blake Lively, breakout female and TV drama actress; and Ed Westwick, who plays the antagonistic Chuck Bass, choice TV villain.
"I feel like I'm still a teenager, because I'm perpetually in high school," Crawford told reporters backstage. "And I'm 23."
The Jonas Brothers also won six awards: choice single, breakout group, love song, song of the summer, male red-carpet fashion icons and male hottie awards.
Introduced by The Office's Rainn Wilson, Kevin, Joe and Nick made continuous appearances during the ceremony, thanks to a segment called "Ask the Jonas Brothers," in which they answered questions sent in from fans on YouTube.
In the first, they are asked to describe the perfect date. Joe says it's riding in white horse on the beach to pick up his date, then going to Paris, "maybe" Barcelona, "maybe" see a movie.
As for other winners, three surfboards went to Will Smith (one for Hancock and two for I Am Legend); Chris Brown accepted five music awards, including best male artist; Hayden Panettiere was best TV action-adventure actress; and David Beckham won best male athlete.
Bring his three sons on to the stage with him, Becks thanked America for accepting him. After his father's speech, young Cruz Beckham suddenly broke into a break dance on stage as the crowd cheered him on.
The awards, which were selected by more 30 million votes cast online by teenagers, honor celebrities in TV, film, music, sports and fashion. The ceremony will air on FOX Monday night at 8 ET.

| JONAS BROTHERS, GOSSIP GIRL WIN SIX TEEN CHOICE AWARDS Blog |
The Jonas Brothers and the CW hit Gossip Girl were the big winners at Sunday's Teen Choice Awards.
Both took home six awards each.
Gossip Girl was honored for choice TV drama, breakout show, breakout male actor (Chace Crawford), breakout female and TV drama actress (Blake Lively) and TV villain (Ed Westwick).
The Jonas Brothers won for choice breakout group, love song, music single, song of the summer, male red carpet fashion icons and male hotties.
"Last year we were here presenting, and to be back a year later and to be up for seven awards, that’s really, really crazy!" Nick Jonas told Usmagazine.com. "We are so blessed, and our fans are incredible, and we love it."

Miley Cyrus — who scored three awards — hosted the show, which airs tonight at 8 p.m. (ET) on Fox.
Lauren Conrad won choice TV female reality star.
"It’s really cool," she told Us. "It came from people who watch you every week and relate to you."
She told Us she'll keep her award "with my mom in Laguna. She has a room for them."
Heroes star Hayden Panettiere was honored as choice TV action-adventure actress and David Beckham as choice male athlete.
His son Cruz stole the show, however, when he started break dancing on stage after his dad accepted his award.
David said he didn't teach his son those moves.
"He went on tour for six months with his mom," he told Us, "so maybe he learned from her!"
