Even almost a decade after the original Beverly Hills, 90210 series finale – and before CW launched its 90210 remake – Aaron Spelling still had the famous zip code on his mind.
"Aaron talked about ... the idea of sort of doing a new 90210," Jason Priestley told reporters in a conference call on Tuesday. "He was talking about it right up until the time that he passed away."
Although Spelling, who died in June 2006, didn't get a chance to see the 90210 spinoff, Priestley said he's sure the TV mogul is "looking down on all of this and smiling very broadly."Unlike his former 90210 costars Jennie Garth and Shannen Doherty, who have reprised their roles in the new series, Priestley, 39, said he doesn't plan on making any guest appearances. Instead, he'll get behind the camera to direct an upcoming episode.
"There really wasn't anything interesting for me to do as [my character] Brandon on that show," he explained. "I felt that I just had more to offer as a director."
In the acting department, however next for Priestley is a guest spot on Thursday's My Name is Earl, where he'll play Earl's backpack model cousin.

Melrose Place could be following in 90210's footsteps with its own spin-off.

CW and CBS network reps confirm to the Associated Press that they're in talks to remake the show, which originally aired from 1992 to 1999 on Fox.
The show would debut in the 2009-10 TV season, spokesman Paul Hewitt said Tuesday.
The announcement comes on the heels of Beverly Hills 90210's success, which has boosted CW's performance among women 18 to 34 by 46 percent on Tuesday nights.
There's no word if stars Heather Locklear, Andrew Shue, Courtney Thorne-Smith or Marcia Cross would reprise their roles.

Jennie Garth is thrilled her original 90210 co-star Jason Priestley will be directing an upcoming episode of the CW spin-off.
"I'm happy that he's there. Jason directed a couple of episodes of the original show, and he was great," she told Usmagazine.com Saturday at the fourth annual GLSEN Respect Awards in Beverly Hills. "He's a hoot, so it'll be fun!"
Will Luke Perry be returning?
"Well, I just talked to him on the phone on my way here, and he didn't mention coming back at all," she said. "I don't know if that's going to happen, but I would love it."

At times, Garth admitted, "I feel old. It's hard because the original 90210 was the first of its kind. It was the first teen show that showed teen angst and all the drama that goes along with teens.
"With this show, it's hard, because there are a lot of other teen shows out there now - they're a dime a dozen," she added. "So now it's hard to come up with fresh and exciting ideas."

Garth told Us she isn't sure if she'll stick around for the second season.
"I'm just trying to get through episode 10!" she said.
The show "is going well," she went on. "If the story writing is good, if people like it and people want it, then that's what I'll do."
She joked, "If everyone's like, 'Get her out of there, kick her out!' I'm not going to hang out!"

Jason Priestley is returning to 90210 - but this time he'll be behind the camera.
The original sitcom star, 39, will direct an episode of the CW spin-off to air this spring, according to a report on EW.com.

90210 executive producer Gabe Sachs confirms the star is "in talks," to return for two episodes.
So could Priestley be directing his former TV sis?
"I think it would be a kick for Jason to work with any of his [former 90210 costars], and it would also add something special to that episode," Sachs tells EW.com. "But we don't know whether that will happen yet."
Priestley could also be working with Jennie Garth, who's back for a few more episodes this season.

Miley Cyrus is celebrating her Sweet 16 a few weeks early.
Even though her actual birth date isn't until Nov. 23, she got the party started Sunday at Disneyland.
More than 5,000 guests (many of whom paid $250) partied with the Hannah Montana singer at the Anaheim, Calif., theme park, which was shut down for the day.
The park's main attractions -- Big Thunder Mountain and Pirates of the Caribbean -- remained open for partygoers, who included Cyrus' boyfriend Justin Gaston, American Idol's David Archuleta, Jennie Garth, Steve Carell, Cindy Crawford, Tyra Banks and Jennifer Love Hewitt, the Associated Press reports.

Cyrus -- who wore a white ruffled skirt and jersey-like vest with "Sweet 16" printed on the back -- performed four tunes. (Her father, Billy Ray, belted out his classic "Achy Breaky Heart.")

The bash also included a fireworks display above Sleeping Beauty Castle and 16 giant inflatable candles and a purple carpet (purple is Cyrus' favorite color).
So what does the teen want for her birthday?

Doherty denied a claim by former 90210 castmate Tori Spelling that she once got into a fistfight with Jennie Garth Garth.
"We never did," Doherty told Us. "I think I would remember Jennie's fist connecting with a part of my body or a part of my face."

The two-hour premiere episode was watched by 4.9 million viewers, making it the highest-rated scripted series premiere in the history of the network, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Among coveted viewers aged 18-40-years-old, the show tied with the premiere of CW's ratings champ, America's Next Top Model
The first episode of the spin-off featured original cast favorites Jennie Garth and Shannen Doherty, who shared the screen with a wide array of fresh faces.

Meanwhile, stars Jessica Stroup and Shenae Grimes are so thin that show producers and costars are poised to take action, Us Weekly reported.
Stroup, 21, is 5-foot-8 but weighs 100 to 105 pounds while Grimes, 18, is 5-foot-3 and stands at a mere 90 pounds, Beverly Hills-based weight-management expert Dr. Joyce Peters estimated to Us.
"The girls were all skinny when they started, but they're definitely thinner now," the source added.

She said she can't stop watching the actor - who played dweeby David Silver - on his current Fox show Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.
"I want him back really badly, but at the same time I love watching that show, and I love watching him in it," she said.

"It kind of goes back to the past and present," she told Us. "I had friends my entire life, and those are the friends that I go home to.

She said she doesn't give the new CW cast any advice, as "they are really smart kids - they don’t need that much guidance."
Shenae Grimes (who plays Annie Wilson) "definitely asks me how to navigate some things, and I adore her," Doherty added. "They are all adorable. The cast gets along really well. You gotta give credit to the producers for putting together such a group."

Jennie Garth may be reprising her role as the stylish Kelly Taylor on the new 90210, but earlier this year, looks were the last thing on her mind.
"I had this six months of hell," the actress, 36, tells PEOPLE. "I had a sick daughter and then my father passed away, so there was a six month period in my life when I didn't think about my looks or my weight or my body or anything."
Fresh off her stint on Dancing With The Stars – and toned from months of 8-hour-a-day dance practices – Garth suddenly faced every mother's worst nightmare. Her 5-year-old daughter Lola, "got very sick and we didn't know what was wrong with her," says Garth, who has three girls with husband Peter Facinelli. "I was basically locked in a closet with her for three months."
Leaving all vanity behind, "I didn't exercise or eat healthy," she adds. "I had been a 27 in my jeans after Dancing With the Stars and I was so excited. But it really went back quickly. I definitely gained inches and a size."
Finally, doctors were able to diagnose her daughter's ailment. "It turned out to be a form of JRA [Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis]) and we treated her and its in remission," says Garth. "It was tough, but she's better now."

Is Tiffani Thiessen secretly yearning to return to 90210 as bad girl Valerie Malone?
"I don't think so, I mean I wish them all the luck, but I'm just so in a different place right now," Thiessen, 34, told Usmagazine.com at the Nike + Human Race in L.A. on Sunday. "You know, it's not that I don't look back at that show with wonderful, amazing memories, but I've just gone in a different direction for me. But I think it's wonderful."

Doherty and Garth, who will reprise their roles as Brenda Walsh and Kelly Taylor in the new show, arrived separately.

Party guests expecting to get a glimpse of the show's first episode were out of luck: The premiere was not screened. (The CW recently announced pre-broadcast copies of the series would not be distributed to TV reviewers and reporters as a "strategic marketing decision.")
Meanwhile, Garth recently said reuniting with Doherty (with whom she once got into a fistfight) wasn't "as bad as I thought it would be.

Jennie Garth admits she was initially uneasy about working with Shannen Doherty again. (The two famously clashed during their 90210 heyday — and once got into a fistfight.)
But when she reunited with Doherty to shoot CW's 90210 spin-off, she tells TV Guide, “It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be.
“I’m not much of a small talker, and I don’t think she is either. I was a little nervous because I hadn’t seen or talked to her in 14 years," she goes on. "Everyone was making it out to be such a big deal that I think we both fell prey to having that affect us.”
With their squabbles behind them, Garth says, “I think it will be OK. We’re both grown women, both professionals. Once we were working, it felt like a good fit.”
Co-star Ryan Eggold, who plays Kelly’s new beau on the series, admits "everybody was on pins and needles and sort of waiting to see how they’d react.
“They started off kind of tentative, but by the time we were five takes in, they were giggling and seemed to be reconnecting," he says.

Jennie Garth is speaking out about Tori Spelling's decision to drop out of CW's 90210 spin-off over salary disputes.
“[The press thinks] we’re at war over salary with Tori. I didn’t know I was at war with Tori,” Garth tells EW.com. “I’m really bummed because I love Tori, and I was psyched Tori was going to be on the show.
"I think she should definitely get paid as much as either of us is getting paid," she adds. "Her father created the show. It just seems wrong if that’s the case. I don’t know what really happened because I haven’t talked to her. I would like to talk to her.”

On Monday, Spelling's rep issued a statement saying that the actress had no plans to appear on the CW spin-off.
The statement came after a deadlinehollywooddaily.com report claimed that Spelling was miffed that Garth and Shannen Doherty were earning “$35,000-$50,000” per episode when she was only getting “$10,000-$20,000” per episode.
But Doherty says, “They didn’t even get the numbers right,” adding, “so I don’t know if [Spelling's decision] is about the money either.”
Still, Garth tells EW she hopes Spelling will eventually appear on the show.

Tori Spelling has changed her mind about returning to Beverly Hills, 90210 as Donna Martin.
"At this time, there are no plans for Tori to appear in the 90210 spinoff," her rep tells Usmagazine.com.
The confirmation comes after DeadlineHollywoodDaily.com reported Monday that Spelling, 35, pulled out after learning that co-stars Jennie Garth and Shannen Doherty were earning $35,000-$50,000 per episode compared to Spelling's $10,000-$20,000 per episode salary.
"She thought she deserved parity, and she's got a point," an insider told DeadlineHollywoodDaily.com.

In May, The CW announced Spelling's involvement with the new show as a guest-star.
According to the statement, Martin is now "the owner of one of the coolest stores in Beverly Hills, a shopping hot spot that is frequented" by the new characters.
"I am excited about it," Spelling told Us in April when asked about the new version.
"In some way, every show that followed 90210 was a remake of 90210," she added. "For the fans' sake, I am really happy for them."
Spelling — whose late father Aaron created and produced the original series — gave birth to daughter Stella last month. The actress, husband Dean McDermott and son Liam, 1, star on Oxygen's Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood reality show.
She recently signed up to write a sequel to her best-selling memoir.

The actress, 37, has been cast on CW's upcoming 90210 spin-off, the show's executive producer, Gabe Sachs, announced at the Television Critics Association fall press tour Saturday.
She will reprise her role as Brenda Walsh, who, after a successful theater career, has returned to West Beverly High as a guest director for the school’s musical production.
