So what was Jeremy Piven doing at Britney Spears' circus-themed 27th birthday party Tuesday night?
Even he doesn't know.
"I'm really embarrassed -- I didn't know it was Britney's birthday party! I think I was the one guy who didn't know!" he told Usmagazine.com Wednesday at a party for Common's Capsule Line with Software by Microsoft.
Check out Polaroid photos from Spears' party!
Piven told Us he went to the club "to say hello to someone" when he noticed the club had been transformed into a circus tent, complete jugglers and even a man on stilts.
"I was confused!" said the Entourage star, who finally figured out the reason for all the commotion.
Look back at Britney Spears' crazy year.
So did he get to wish Spears a happy birthday?
"I did not speak to the birthday girl," Piven told Us. "I fortunately have nothing to report."

BIRTHDAY GIRL BRITNEY'S BIG NIGHT OUT Blog
After blowing out candles in London on Saturday, then a Tuesday morning celebration on Good Morning America, Britney Spears capped off her 27th birthday festivities with family and friends on Tuesday night.
But first, she helped NBC ring in the holiday season.
Spears (wearing a coat that covered her sexy party dress) taped a special greeting for the opening moments of Wednesday night's star-studded Christmas in Rockefeller Center 2008 (airing on NBC at 8 p.m. ET), then headed to the top of Rockefeller Center for a quiet dinner at The Rainbow Room with her father, Jamie, manager, Larry Rudolph, mom, Lynne, and sons Jayden, 2, and Preston, 3, a source tells PEOPLE.Afterward, Spears ventured downtown for a combined birthday and album release party at the club Tenjune. Guests at the Big Top-themed bash – a nod to her new album, Circus – included Tyson Beckford, Jeremy Piven and Lance Bass.
One star who didn't make it in? Ugly Betty's Eric Mabius, who was turned away from the jam-packed club when he arrived with an entourage of friends.
Next up: Spears returns to L.A. where she will reportedly help light a 52-foot digital Christmas tree at the new L.A. Live entertainment complex Thursday night.

BRITNEY SPEARS CELEBRATES 27TH BIRTHDAY WITH CIRCUS-THEMED PARTY IN NYC Blog
Britney Spears' 27th birthday party Tuesday night ended up being quite a circus.
Literally.
To tie into the release of her latest album Circus, NYC hot spot Tenjune was transformed into a giant circus tent, complete with with a hot dog stand and popcorn and cotton candy machines emblazoned with the pop star's name and even a man on stilts and jugglers.
Outside the club, a huge screen projected circus imagery.
Look back at Britney Spears' crazy year.
Spears - who had taped a speech to air on the upcoming Rockefeller Center New York City Tree Lighting Ceremony special earlier in the day - arrived in a low-cut gray cocktail dress that showed a lot of cleavage.
She smiled throughout the night as she mingled with guests, including her mother Lynne Spears, her manager Larry Rudolph, Lance Bass, Jeremy Piven, Robert Buckley and Ciara.

As she was presented with a cake -- featuring sparkling candles that tied into the bash's circus theme -- Barry Weiss, CEO and president of Jive Records, told the singer, "We are so proud and so happy to be a part of your life. Looking at your two boys today, it's an amazing experience."

So what's Spears' birthday wish?
"A million more wishes! Definitely!" she told Entertainment Tonight.
Added pal Bass, "I'm so proud of her! The album's amazing. I love when people do themes for their albums. A circus is a lot of fun."

OBAMA'S NEW CHIEF OF STAFF: HIS BROTHER HELPED INSPIRE ENTOURAGE! Blog
Rep. Rahm Emanuel of Illinois accepted the position as Barack Obama’s White House Chief of Staff on Thursday.
The 48-year-old congressman -- a hard-nosed veteran of the Clinton White House who has the nickname "Rahm-bo" -- has three children, son Zacharias and daughters Ilana and Leah, with his wife Amy.
He also has a Hollywood connection: His youngest brother Ari Emanuel founded Hollywood's Endeavor talent agency and was an inspiration for Jeremy Piven's character, Ari Gold, on HBO’s Entourage.
Rahm -- who was offered a scholarship to join the renowned Joffrey Ballet -- is also the inspiration for Bradley Whitford's character Josh Lyman on The West Wing.

FIVE THINGS ABOUT RAHM EMANUEL, OBAMA'S NEW CHIEF OF STAFF Blog
Rahm Emanuel will be the president's right-hand man in the new administration. The 48-year-old accepted the position as Barack Obama’s White House Chief of Staff on Thursday, according to the New York Times.
A Democratic congressman representing his native Chicago since 2003, he earned his chops raising funds for Bill Clinton's White House runs and serving as an advisor. Known for his hard-charging personal style, he's also dad to three children, son Zacharias and daughters Ilana and Leah, with his wife Amy. But did you know he could have been pirouetting with the Joffrey Ballet? Read on for a briefing. He's the real-life Ari's brother. His youngest brother Ariel (Ari) Emanuel is a founder of the Endeavor talent agency in Hollywood and was an inspiration for Jeremy Piven's character, Ari Gold, on HBO’s Entourage. Not to be outdone, Rahm is said have been a model for Bradley Whitford's character, Josh Lyman, on The West Wing. He could have been a ballet dancer. He studied ballet as a teen and was offered a scholarship to join the renowned Joffrey Ballet, but went to Sarah Lawrence College instead. He's missing part of a finger. In his youth, Emanuel badly cut a finger on a meat slicer while working at an Arby's. The wound became infected, and he lost half of the middle finger on his right hand. He volunteered with the Israeli army. During the first Gulf War, he did a stint as a civilian volunteer with the Israel Defense Forces, rust-proofing brakes on a base in northern Israel. He once sent a rotten dead fish to a political enemy. In the Clinton administration, his take-no-prisoners style earned him the nickname "Rahm-bo."

BFFs Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift, grabbing a treat at Menchie's Frozen
Yougurt in Studio City, Calif. With a driver waiting outside, the girls
"looked so cute," an onlooker tells us. "They were laughing and joking
around." The pair took their time picking out flavors and toppings before
heading back to their waiting car.
Amanda Bynes, getting a blowout at the Neil
George Salon in Beverly Hills. "She was in a really great mood," an
eyewitness says. The starlet was also chatting about a party she attended
with her cavalier king spaniel, Charlie, the night before. "Everyone in the
salon was fawning over him," the source says of the actress's pooch.
They voted in New York – and Sarah Jessica Parker and husband Matthew Broderick had no problems sharing
their presidential pick. The actor shouted "Go Obama" as he, his wife and
son James Wilkie, 6, hopped into the back of a Prius and zoomed away from
their West Village precinct.
New couple Jamie Lynn Sigler and Entourage's
Jerry Ferrara, dining with two friends at Magnolia in Hollywood.
Sitting side by side, Ferrara enjoyed the spaghetti and meatballs special
while Sigler went lighter, ordering the steak salad. The couple acted cute
but didn't display too much affection; they just stuck to holding hands. The
night before, they cozied up at dinner at Morton's The Steakhouse in
Burbank.
And Entourage costar Jeremy Piven enjoyed his
own female attention in New York. The actor was in model heaven at the One
Management modeling agency bash at the Rose Bar inside the Gramercy Park Hotel. Piven cohosted
the party with Australian model Jessica Hart, and the two were
having a great time, a partygoer tells us. Says the party guest: "He was
definitely into her friends. All the girls there loved him."
Ryan Gosling continued to hone his deejay
skills, spinning during his usual gig at West Hollywood's latest hot spot,
Bardot. The actor took over the turntables, pumping up the crowd and rocking
back and forth in the deejay booth. The actor sang along to his selections
– which included some Madonna tunes and Bel Biv DeVoe's "Poison"
– and greeted his friends.

Heidi Klum, getting a handle on her kids – Leni, 4, and Johan, 23 months – during a fun playdate in Los Angeles. The model mom and Project Runway host took her tots to a city park where she supervised her son, who kicked around a ball, and even helped him down a slide. The happy family (plus bodyguards and nannies) also enjoyed a sunshine picnic during their outing.
Still going strong, Nick Lachey and Vanessa Minnillo, double dated with Drew Lachey and wife Lea at Whiskey Blue inside L.A.'s W Hotel. "They were enjoying drinks with a large group of friends in the cabana area," says an onlooker. "So many women were trying to talk to Nick that they ended up closing off the room." Unperturbed by the attention, the group continued to have a great time "talking and laughing" before heading out a little after the bar closed.

INSIDE STORY: HOW TO BUILD A BETTER AWARDS SHOW Blog
Ratings were down and criticism was up for this year's Emmys – Jeremy Piven complained he felt he was being Punk'd – and the Entourage star wasn't alone.
"I got pretty angry this year with the Emmys," former American Idol executive producer Nigel Lythgoe told PEOPLE at the Fox Reality Channel Really Awards Wednesday. "We've forgotten that it's supposed to be entertainment as well as being self-congratulatory."
The problem has plagued other ceremonies, including the Oscars, which last week hired Dream Girls writer-director Bill Condon to shake things up. But exactly how?PEOPLE asked a collection of Hollywood figures for their suggestions of how to cure the common congrats-fest, with ideas ranging from adding imaginative new categories, transferring more of it to the Web, returning to the ceremonies' entertainment roots and even featuring cable-style sex and profanity.
Vivica A. Fox, actress, at the Really Awards: "They need to go back to what it was when you used to watch an awards show, which is big production and big opening acts. Go back to what works: show business." Christine Peters, producer, How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days:"They have to think bigger. They need to turn these shows into events and
maybe do these shows Las Vegas-style. Maybe they should charge the public
who would pay to see real stars like Madonna or Britney Spears. You need to glam up these shows."
Jay Thomas, comedian, deejay and Emmy winner: For the Emmys, the
Television Academy of Arts and Sciences should just give in to its own
'reality' once and for all and have an awards show where we get to vote
people off and rate the level of banality we see trotted out before us.
Johnny Knoxville would host."

TINA FEY WINS BEST ACTRESS FOR 30 ROCK Blog
Tina Fey took home best actress in a comedy series and writing for a comedy series for 30 Rock on Sunday at the 60th Annual Emmy Awards.
"I'm very proud to be a writer. I wouldn't have had any of the other jobs I've had if I hadn't been a writer," Fey gushed.
Fey and her pregnant Baby Mama costar Amy Poehler, took a shot at Eva Longoria Parker before presenting Jeremy Piven with best supporting actor in a comedy series.
"When are you due?" Fey asked Poehler, to which Poehler responded, "that's so rude, I just gained weight for a role."
Longoria recently dismissed pregnancy speculation by saying that she had to gain weight for her role on Desperate Housewives.
Look back at the worst-dressed Emmy's stars of all time.
Despite all presenters being told not to mention the current election, some found a way to sneak in some references.
"I really look forward to the next administration, whoever it is," Jon Stewart said as he accepted the best variety, music or comedy series award for The Daily Show "I have nothing to follow that. I just really look forward to the next administration."
While presenting with Stewart, Stephen Colbert pulled out a bag of prunes and said, "America needs prunes. It may not be a young, sexy plum. Granted, it's shriveled and at times hard to swallow. But this dried-up old prune has the experience we need."

JEREMY PIVEN: MICHAEL PHELPS CAN JOIN OUR ENTOURAGE Blog
Michael Phelps delivered a brief cameo on Entourage – and some cast members would like to see the Olympian join them fulltime in the future.
"I could see him coming back as one of the boys," said Jeremy Piven during a party to celebrate the fifth season premiere of the HBO hit – held Wednesday at New York's Ziegfeld Theater.
And talk about swimming with sharks. Imaging how his own character – abrasive agent Ari Gold – would interact with the 23-year-old, real-life gold medalist, Piven, 43, said, "I can see Ari being very aggressive in recruiting him to represent him and also stopping at nothing to poach him from another client. That's what Ari would do."
Jerry Ferrera, who plays Turtle on the show, also likes the idea of Phelps coming back for more. "I'm lobbying to get him back next season so that I can be there," he said. "He could teach Turtle how to swim."Doug Ellin, the show's creator and executive producer, said it was by chance that Phelps landed on Entourage at all. He happened to be walking by the set while a scene was shot in New York City. It took just minutes for Ellin to welcome him in.
Swimmer Stopped Traffic"It was the coolest thing in the world. When he showed up, I'm not exaggerating, city buses stopped and people started yelling and within five minutes we couldn't even shoot," said Ellin.
Phelps plays himself in his appearance and gives actor Kevin Connelly's character a hard time.
"He and I bump into each other on the side of the road, at a crosswalk on 57th and 7th. He bumps into me and looks at me like he's gonna beat me up," said Connelly. "It was great. We had actually taken a few takes of the scene, and then we decided we're gonna pop Michael Phelps into the shot."

GUY RITCHIE: MY MARRIAGE TO MADONNA IS FINE Blog
All's well with the marriage of Guy Ritchie and Madonna, the film director tells PEOPLE – "as far as I'm aware of," he added with a smile.
A relaxed and cheerful Ritchie, 39, joined the cast of his upcoming directorial effort RocknRolla on Thursday afternoon at the San Diego International Comic-Con.
Joined by his film's costars Gerard Butler, Jeremy Piven and Chris "Ludacris" Bridges to show scenes and sign autographs, Ritchie also spoke about how being married to the pop icon – whom he referenced only as "my wife" – had allowed him to look at his hometown of London with fresh eyes. "I was born there and I've seen it change and I know a great deal about it, I'm invested," the director said. "I live vicariously through my wife, so I was once a spy and now I've become a tourist, and it's much more fun to live in London as a tourist than it is as a spy."
He further observed, "Someone told me the definition was a spy always looks for the bad stuff, and a tourist always looks for the good stuff. So that makes it easy, being married to an American."
After spending time with Madonna, 49, in New York City – where the two faced intense speculation about the status of their marriage and she is rehearsing for her upcoming Sticky & Sweet tour – Ritchie headed to Los Angeles. There, he attended Kabbalah services and dined with Robert Downey Jr., who's set to star as Sherlock Holmes in a movie Ritchie will direct.
