KATY PERRY TO PERFORM "LIKE A VIRGIN" AT VMAS Blog

British comic Russell Brand has revealed "I Kissed a Girl" singer Katy Perry will perform "Like a Virgin" at Sunday's MTV Video Music Awards.
"There's a lot of virginity and lesbianism going on at the show," the English host told reporters at a press preview held Thursday, at the Paramount Pictures lot where the ceremony will be held.
Brand dubbed the Jonas Brothers "God's favorite virgins."

When the Jonas Brothers hit the stage on Sunday, "it will make the concept of an afterlife seem tame by comparison," Brand joked.

The Jonas Brother will have some competition from Christina Aguilera.
Aguilera, clad in sky-high heels and hot-pink lipstick, joined Brand at the preview to announce she'll be belting her new single "Keeps Getting Better," which is also the name of the best-of album she's releasing in November.
See what Aguilera looked like pregnant.
"You're going to get a first look and a first listen at my new image and my new sound," Aguilera told reporters. "The last album, the style and sound was about vintage glam - this one is all about the future."
Aguilera said that this would be the first time her son Max would be able to see her on TV, to which, Brand joked, "The VMAs are going to be so great that Christina Aguilera is willing to risk her newborn baby's sight!"

T.I. also showed up with news that he'll be debuting a new song with Rihanna.
Later, Brand dished that the Jonas Brothers requested to be introduced by Taylor Swift. He cracked that Swift was "a decision made from below their sexy little waists."
Joe Jonas and Swift have getting close since she made a cameo in the Jonas Brothers concert film.
How well do you know your favorite teen stars?
Brand's most shocking announcement?
Kanye West will be closing the show.
At the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards, according to the AP, West was upset about being shut out of all five categories in which he was nominated, that West claimed he would "never return to MTV."
The 25th annual awards telecast, will air live at 9 p.m. ET/PT from Paramount Studios in Hollywood.

BEN AFFLECK'S UNCONVENTIONAL CONVENTION WEEK Blog

Ben Affleck packed in so much time doing good at the Democratic Convention in Denver that it seems he barely had time for the main attraction – indeed, he and wife Jennifer Garner ended up catching Barack Obama's acceptance speech from their California home Thursday night.
"It's like a football game," Affleck, 36, told PEOPLE about the convention. "You go and you can hardly see the person, so you wished you would have watched it on TV."
As for where the time went in the Rocky Mountains, the actor – who's sprouting facial hair these days for his role in the movie "Extract, with Mike Judge – was packing 25-lb. boxes of food for America's Second Harvest, as part of a celebrity team that also included National Treasure's Justin Bartha. In a five-minute competition to see who could pack and wrap the most, Affleck's side whipped the Congressional squad that included Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin and Massachusetts Congressman Jim McGovern, 17 boxes to 15.
Affleck says he was drawn to Second Harvest two years ago after scouting film locations in a tough Boston neighborhood and discovering people forced to choose between food and housing or medical care.
"This is something people don't talk much about," says Affleck, "the 35 million people here in the U.S., including 9 million children, who are hungry."
Affleck also devoted time to poker – picking up a first-pace plaque in an event with the Poker Players Alliance to raise funds for Paralyzed Vets of America.
Not that his time was solely focused on packing food and poker. Both he and Garner hosted a table at the Impact Film Festival Party at 5 Degrees on Wednesday night, along with Forrest Whitaker, Kirsten Dunst and Bradley Cooper.
Later they moved on to an after-party at EXDO Event Center, where Kanye West played.

KANYE WEST: "I WISH MY MOMMA COULD HAVE SEEN" BARACK OBAMA NOMINATED Blog

Kanye West wishes his mom, Donda, lived to see Barack Obama anointed as the first African-American presidential nominee.
"It's an incredible time to be around," the rapper told the crowd during Thursday morning's ONE campaign party in Denver, according to the Associated Press.
"I wish my momma could have seen this day," he said of Donda, who died in November after complications following plastic surgery.
Jamie Foxx jumped on stage and declared, "We make history, man.
"If you ready for Obama, make some noise," he added, "Yo man, let's do this for Obama."
The duo then performed their tune "Gold Digger."

Celebs like Ashley Judd (who also attended Bill Clinton's speech at the Democratic National Convention on Wednesday) were in the audience at the soiree, which was hosted by Bono's ONE anti-poverty campaign and the Recording Industry Associated of America.
A-listers have been all over Denver showing their support for Obama.
Ben Affleck participated in a celebrity versus politician race to fill boxes of food for an America's Second Harvest event Wednesday.
"I think maybe we cheated a little bit, which is not uncommon for celebrities," he joked to Usmagazine.com.
Nearby, ex Jennifer Lopez mingled at the Capitol File & Viacom party, held at the Denver Art Museum, and then later flashed a thumbs up sign to reporters who asked how triathlon training was going at the Voto Latino party.
Charlize Theron, Anne Hathaway, Jennifer Garner and Jessica Alba have also been spotted in the mile high city ahead of Obama's acceptance speech tonight.

SHERYL CROW, DAVE MATTHEWS KICK OFF DEMOCRATIC CONVENTION CELEBRATIONS Blog

The stars have descended on Denver for the Democratic National Convention, which begins today.
Sheryl Crow, Dave Matthews, and Sugarland's Jennifer Nettles sang at a kickoff event at Red Rocks Amphitheater on the outskirts of the city Sunday night.
"Are you strong enough to be my man, or my president?" Crow sang of Barack Obama.
"What I'm hearing from Sen. Obama is a lot like what we heard from Robert Kennedy," Crow told the audience. "No matter what campaign ad we see or how it's spun, hope is important. It's what this country was based on."
The singer also told the Associated Press that John McCain's criticism of Obama as a celebrity is just "a campaign ploy.
"I don't see him hanging out," she said. "I have yet to see him at any celebrity events."

Also, former American Idol contestant Jennifer Hudson has been tapped to sing the National Anthem Thursday night at Obama's request.

MADONNA KICKS OFF WORLD TOUR IN KNEE-HIGH BOOTS Blog

Sitting on a diamante "M" throne in a fringed black leotard and over-the-knee leather boots, Madonna kicked off her Sticky and Sweet tour Saturday night at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium in Wales, opening with "Candy Shop."
The 40,000-strong audience was in for a night of treats, including onscreen appearances by Kanye West, Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake, who dueted on "4 Minutes."
The image of rapper West encircled the stage for "Beat Goes On" as fans screamed and Madonna cruised through on a white vintage convertible car.
Spears made her virtual guest spot during "Human Nature," writhing while trapped in an elevator as Madonna played the guitar. The popster departed with her trademark line "It's Britney B–!"
Madonna switched themes multiple times, going sporty for "Into the Groove" in diamante-encrusted shorts and a hoodie, and invoking the Far East for a segment that had her in a cage with computer-generated water gushing around it. "La Isla Bonita" turned the stage into a Mediterranean street party with Greek dancing and a flamenco solo performance.
While fans went wild, husband Guy Ritchie was lending support backstage, according to the singer's rep, who also said Madonna had spent the day rehearsing. "She's been putting the finishing touches to some of the dance routines today, in a good way, she's a perfectionist!"
The 50-year-old singer pulled out all the stops, even using a video interlude to send a political message
with images of peace campaigners, Al Gore, Bono and Barack Obama mixed with scenes of war-torn continents and poverty.
Religious messages flashed on the screens behind her for a remixed house version of "Like a Prayer," which was met with mass cheers.
At one point the singer shouted to the crowd, "This is the bit where I take requests," and started singing "Express Yourself" – then changed her mind. "F– that s–. I choose the songs."
After two hours, Madonna left the stage as the screen flashed "Game Over."
The singer heads back to London before traveling to France to continue the tour around Europe before arriving in New Jersey on Oct. 4.

Theron and beau Stuart Townsend will participate in a panel for the IMPACT film festival, which will showcase socially-themed pics, while Fran Drescher will address a women's caucus on health issues.
And that's just to name a few.

Convention festivities kick off Sunday night, with an environmentally-themed concert, "Green Sunday at Red Rocks," featuring Sheryl Crow and Dave Matthews, among others.
Pete Wentz's Fall Out Boy and NERD will perform for Rock the Vote Monday night, and Kanye West is set to perform for Bono's ONE Campaign and the Recording Industry Assn. of America on Wednesday.

The convention is moving from the 20,000-seat Pepsi Center to 76,000-seat Invesco Field for Obama's acceptance speech. (Ricky Kirshner, who produced the 2007 Super Bowl halftime show, will resume the convention's co-executive producing duties.)
Oprah Winfrey is expected to attend, but will not speak for Obama.

CAUGHT IN THE ACT! Blog

• File this under wrong place, right time! Kirsten Dunst made it out to the Green Door's jazz night – but that's not where she planned on going.
The actress wandered into the Hollywood lounge thinking there was a party
for Pineapple Express. When told she was at the wrong place, she
decided to stay anyway – and settled into the library with a group of
friends. "She stayed listening to the jazz," an onlooker says. "She was
upbeat and having a great time."
• Lauren Conrad, rushing into STK in West
Hollywood with Lauren "Lo" Bosworth for a late supper.
After the ladies finished dinner, they popped next door to Coco De Ville,
where they took a seat on top of a banquette sans cameras. LC messaged
furiously on her BlackBerry – and the two friends sipped champagne
throughout the night. At one point, Conrad held her glass in the
air as she got down to tunes like Kanye West's "Flashing
Lights."
• After setting up shop at L.A.'s Farmer's Daughter Hotel,
Charlize Theron met a group for dinner at TART, where the
ladies feasted on Southern delicacies. On the menu: crawfish spring rolls,
friend green tomatoes and banana cream pie.
• Ryan Reynolds, visiting with family in Vancouver. While in
his hometown, Scarlett Johansson's fiancé ventured to the
Cascade Room with his older brother. According to onlookers, the actor
stayed incognito, and hung out for several hours.
• Heather Mills and daughter Beatrice, 4, hanging on the
rooftop of New York's Soho House with their nanny in town. Mills typed on
her laptop while the nanny played with her daughter.
