| KATE WINSLET DISHES ON SEX SCENES WITH LEO Blog |
Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio have done steamy onscreen sex scenes together before, but for their upcoming film Revolutionary Road, they had to pair up in front of Winslet's director-husband, Sam Mendes.
"I had a total meltdown," Winslet said at New York City's Times Center on Monday. "Sam was there lining the scene up. I'd get things like, 'Press your hands into his back! No, his back!' You just have to deal with it. Leo was remarkably fine with the whole thing."
Mendes, who joined his wife for the TimesTalks conversation about Revolutionary Road, called the scene "a profoundly weird experience" but said Winslet was very professional. Revolutionary Road marks the first time Mendes has worked with his wife, despite Winslet's efforts to do that for years. "I was getting a little sick of people like Jake Gyllenhaal, Emma Watson, all these wonderful actors say, 'Oh my God! Oh, you haven't worked together, have you?' I was starting to get a little bit jealous," the Titanic actress said.
Comfortable NudeFor her part, Winslet, 33, said she is fine with getting naked onscreen as long as the scenes fit the story.
"Every time I've been asked to do nudity on screen, I've always believed in the scene," said the actress, who is also naked in her movie The Reader. "I think it's important that women on screen are portrayed as real women. I'm comfortable in my own skin and I'm comfortable with all the imperfections that I have."
Winslet said she hasn't always been so comfortable with her body and was overweight in grade school.
"As a kid, I was bullied at school because I was always quite chubby," she said. "I was always told I was wrong, I was doing the wrong thing. I was made to feel ashamed of myself and my appearance. And you develop a self-preservation muscle when you experience something like that."
Oscar FanstasiesShe escaped the teasing by going into her room and practicing her acting, from making herself cry to makeout scenes in front of a mirror.
"I was the kid who watched Whoopi Goldberg hosting the Academy Awards, and I remember at the end of the show, [she] said, 'To all those kids out there, who wonder one day if they could be in this room, well you know, that could be you.' I was that kid that said, 'Oh my God, that could be me!' I've been there five times!"

Kate Winslet doesn't mind that a few wrinkles are sprouting on her face.
The actress, 33, reunites with Titanic co-star Leonardo DiCaprio in December's Revolutionary Road after nearly a dozen years - and says the best part is seeing how they've aged.
"I'm like, 'Yes, damn it! Look at those foreheads move!'" she tells Parade.

Pointing to a spot between her eyebrows, she adds, "I mean, he has this amazing furrow here, which wasn't as prominent then."
Winslet adds that the wrinkles in her own forehead are "much more prominent.

"I just love seeing those things," she says. "I am enjoying my face changing, as well as realizing that at the same time, as you get older, the machine isn't as well-oiled as it was."
Halle Berry also finds Winslet stunning: She recently remarked that "Kate Winslet is always naked, sitting on a toilet, or running buck naked. I want to be the kind of actress who can really be comfortable with my body like that."

| GWYNETH PALTROW REGRETS WEARING FUR IN AD Blog |
Gwyneth Paltrow is back on good terms with PETA after the anti-fur group lashed out at the actress for wearing a Fox stole in a Tod's ad.
PETA's senior vice president, Dan Mathews, chatted with the actress at the Fontainebleau Hotel opening in Miami over the weekend. In August, the group released a statement that said: "Gwyneth Paltrow won't be the apple of her daughter's eye if she continues to flaunt fur."

According to Mathews, Paltrow graciously said: "That was awkward, and I'm glad you asked, because I do not wear fur at all.
"It was a daylong photo shoot on a boat near Capri, and there were all sorts of poses with all kinds of clothes - none with fur," she added. "During one set-up, a stylist came up from behind and draped a stole around my shoulder.
She continued: "I didn't pay much attention to it, and when I noticed it was fur, I assumed it was fake fur, but did not ask, so it's my fault. I was very surprised when they ended up using that one shot out of hundreds for the centerpiece of the Tod's ads.
"I know it's not a great excuse, but I hope you and your members understand."
(Kate Winslet recently found herself in a similar situation, when she appeared in Vanity Fair posing on a fur rug she thought was faux. The magazine later apologized.)
Paltrow - who works out three hours a day and used to adhere to a strict macrobiotic diet - told Mathews that she thinks people should focus on vegetarianism more than fur.
The actress says she and her husband Chris Martin, plus kids Apple and Moses, mostly skip meat.
"We know it's the best diet for us and our kids, and of course, for animals and the environment," Paltrow said.

Kate Winslet refused to use a body double double or lose weight for her nude scenes in her upcoming flick The Reader.
'I'm doing all right. I've had two kids. I'm 33. I don't look in the mirror and go, 'Oh, I look fantastic' Of course I don't. Nobody is perfect," Winslet tells the UK Daily Mail. "I just don't believe in perfection. But I do believe in saying, 'This is who I am and look at me not being perfect!" I'm proud of that.'"
Describing her flaws, she jokes, "What's not perfect about me? Here we go: crumble baby belly...boobs are worse for wear after two kids..."

The five-time Oscar-nominated actress, who is mom to Joe, 5, and Mia, 8, tries to keep a healthy diet, but doesn't restrict what she eats.
"I'm not a supermodel and I do whatever I can just to stay healthy," she says. "I don't go to the gym. I mean, I go through phases where I think: 'Oh, I really should go and do a class.' I don't have a trainer or a cook."
Her one diet secret: a pilates DVD, which she works out at home "on the living room carpet," she says.
"Here's what's so great about it: no one's looking at you, no one's telling you what to do or work harder or anything like that," she explains. "I know it seems slightly tragic, but it's my way of exercising in a time-efficient way.
"I have a mat and little hand weights and I do a stomach thing and a bum thing. It's very simple - you barely break into a sweat," she adds.
"My body's different. It has settled into what it is now. None of this different diets lark. I can't remember the last time I tried some new fad."
She continues: "Honestly I eat anything, although the only thing I don't is pasta, because it gives me a stomach ache."

Never mind that Leo guy. When it comes to hot costars, Kate Winslet prefers a more mature man.
"Eli Wallach is my very own Sexiest Man Alive!" Winslet gushed Sunday night at a gala honoring her friend and fellow actor Wallach, 92.
"The truth is," she told guests at Tavern on the Green in New York, which included Wallach and his longtime wife, actress Anne Jackson, "Annie, if I had been around 60 years ago, you would have had some tough competition!"
Winslet, 33, attended the 80th anniversary gala dinner for the famed New York acting school, The Neighborhood Playhouse, to give an award to former student Wallach – who auditioned for the school in 1938 and is known for starring in such classics as The Misfits, The Magnificent Seven, and The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.
"But one of my favorites," Winslet admitted, "is The Holiday!" in which they costarred together in 2006.That same year, the actress joked, "I was absolutely thrilled to read that in 2006 Eli Wallach was named PEOPLE Magazine's Sexiest Man Alive!"
So why does the actress find the elderly star so fetching?
"He's always smiling, always chatting, always concentrating, and always telling stories. My favorite story is one that Eli shared with me about dancing on screen with Marilyn Monroe," said Winslet. "I made him tell me that story again and again and again."
And, she points out, he's got more stamina than most younger guys.
"He could go take after take after take ..." she says. On set, "there were days, I must confess, when I'd worry about him getting tired. But not Eli. Oh, no, no, no. I'd say to him, 'Eli, please, would you go home now ... We've been here for 20 hours and it's nearly midnight and you've done your close up!' But he'd look at me, almost offended, and say, 'Oh no … I'm not going home. Not when I'm playing with you!' "
Also attending the reunion dinner were former Playhouse students Diane Keaton, Mary Steenburgen, and Law & Order: Special Victim Unit's Chris Meloni, who attended a summer session at the school when he was 23.
"I remember thinking to myself, 'They are slowly and intentionally driving me crazy!'" said Meloni, of the school's "repetition" acting exercise made famous by acting coach Sanford Meisner. "But I went with it. Being crazy is okay. Don't fight crazy. You have to be a little crazy to be an actor."

Kate Winslet says she didn't always want to be famous.
"I was fat. I didn't know any fat famous actresses," she tells December's Vanity Fair. "I just did not see myself in that world at all, and I'm being very sincere.
"You know, once a fat kid, always a fat kid," she adds. "Because you always think that you just look a little bit wrong or a little bit different from everyone else. And I still sort of have that."

But she says she looks at "women who wear great jeans and high heels and nice little T-shirts wandering around the city and I think, 'I should make more of an effort. I should look like that,'" she says. "But then I think, 'They can't be happy in those heels.'"
Winslet has become a hero to fans for refusing to bow to Hollywood pressure to be skinny. (In 2007, she won libel damages after Britain's Grazia magazine falsely reported that she used a diet doctor.)

Still, she says, "everyone can commit to 20 minutes" of working out, "especially if there's a glass of Chardonnay afterwards."
Above all, the actress wants fans to know she's just like them - zits and all.

"And by the way, since I turned 30, I've had an acne problem on my chin," adds the actress. "I'm just like everybody else -- I just know how to cover it. If you'd like me to show you how, I'd be more than happy."
She says she is lucky she's wed to Sam Mendes, who directs her and Leonardo DiCaprio in the December drama Revolutionary Road.

"I need to be looked after," she tells the magazine. "I'm not talking about diamond rings and nice restaurants and fancy stuff - in fact, that makes me uncomfortable. I didn't grow up with it, and it's not me, you know?
"But I need someone to say to me, 'Shall I run you a bath?' or 'Let's go to the pub, just us.' I mean, the things that make me happiest in the whole world are going on the occasional picnic, either with my children or with my partner," she says. "Big family gatherings, and being able to go to the grocery store — if I can get those things in, I’m doing good."
What would really make her happy? Winning an Oscar.
"Do I want it? You bet your f--king ass I do!" admits Winslet, who's been nominated five times. "I think that people assume that I don't care or don't want it or don’t need it or something. It's hard to be there five times, and I'm only human, you know? But I don't go home and cry, because we're all grown-ups here."

"I just kept saying, 'This is too ... weird,' " Winslet added. "And Leo was like, 'Oh, get over it.' And I'm going, 'Yeah, a little reminder: You're my best friend. He's my husband. This is a bit weird.' "

Kate Winslet was in the awkward position of shooting a sex scene with her Titantic lover Leonardo DiCaprio in the upcoming film Revolutionary Road – directed by her husband, Sam Mendes.
"I just kept saying, 'This is too... weird,'" the actress, 32, told Entertainment Weekly. "And Leo was like, 'Oh, get over it.' And I'm going, 'Yeah, a little reminder: You're my best friend. He's my husband. This is a bit weird.'"
But Winslet was pleasantly surprised by the result.
"I hadn't realized how much my chemistry with him since Titanic would still stick," she said. "It's great to discover we can just slip right into it, like muscle memory."

For his part, Mendes – her husband since 2003 – told the magazine: "I will admit it was quite bizarre to direct my wife in how to make love. But it's difficult whether you're married to a person or not."
Winslet and DiCaprio, 33 – who starred in Titanic in 1997 – play a suburban couple in the film, based on Richard Yates' 1961 novel.
"We knew that if we were going to do something again, it had to be something big and emotional," Winslet said of reuniting with DiCaprio, which she arranged. "I played this very clever cat-and-mouse game to get my husband and then my best friend involved."
