Nicole Kidman wasn't expecting to find love with Keith Urban.
"I didn't foresee it, that you can meet somebody who you have a deep and more profound love with," the actress - who divorced Tom Cruise in 2001 - tells November's Elle.
"I don't mean to take away anything with Tom, but I would hope that he has the same thing - I know he has the same thing with Katie," Kidman adds. "You move into a stage where you're able to be a more fuller person in your relationship."

She continues, "I want to be really careful with that because I don't want to take away from 11 years with that man that were really important. Really, for our kids -- they were amidst a lot of love. It wasn't bad. And now we're amidst a more evolved love."
Does she have any regrets about marrying Cruise at the young age of 22?
"Um, no. Would I want my kids to get married at that age? No!" Kidman says. "But that was an extraordinary thing for me. [Tom] taught me an enormous amount -- as a girl into a woman. Absolutely, I would do it again."

(Seeing Cruise move on was tough, however: Her pal Lauren Bacall says that Kidman was "unhappy on the set of 2003's Dogville. "Tom had taken off for Penelope Cruz or some g-----n thing -- one of his more ridiculous moves," Bacall says. Taking a slight jab at the actor, she tells Elle, "Tom Cruise is a maniac. I can't understand the way he conducts his life.")
Kidman also opens up to Elle about being a mother at age 41.
"At 41, it's more of a painful love. I look at that little girl, and I'm like, 'Oh, no, what's going to happen?' It's almost like my heart is stretching; I'm feeling all the muscles stretch with emotion. It's a beautiful love, but there's a lot of fear and pain for her life, and for Bella's and Connor's life.
"I like to believe that nothing was stopping Sunday from coming into the world," she adds.

Katie Holmes is already making her Broadway debut in All My Sons – but the actress will be singing and dancing her way through a guest appearance on ABC's Eli Stone – and PEOPLE has a first look at her in character.
Holmes will play a non-profit attorney with a mysterious case – and some musical ability – during her Oct. 21 appearance.
"She’s singing and dancing,” Eli Stone producer Greg Berlanti told PEOPLE in July. But the producer wouldn't reveal much more about the musical show, saying, "We want to keep an element of mystery for the audience."
What's not a mystery, though, is how Holmes fared on set.
"She was super gracious and lovely," Natasha Henstridge, who plays the title character’s ex-fiancée, said in July. "And statuesque and gorgeous."

Perhaps the outing was a celebration for Holmes's success in the Broadway show All My Sons? The drama, which is running in previews, officially opens Oct. 16.
• Nicole Richie, having a late lunch with 8-month-old daughter Harlow at the Beverly Hills Hotel's Polo Lounge. The new mom, who sported a red floral-printed shirt and jean shorts and wore her hair partially pulled back, dined with an unidentified older woman and nibbled on the McCarthy chopped salad between playing with her little girl. She and her companion smiled and cooed over Harlow throughout their meal.
• Owen Wilson, making a late-night pit stop at one of his favorite haunts, Venice, Calif., bar The Other Room. Dressed casually in jeans, a T-shirt and a dark flannel button-down, he made his way to the back of the very crowded venue and laughed with a male friend over a drink at the bar. Wilson welcomed several fans who stopped by to say hello before leaving inconspicuously after only 20 minutes. A couple of days later, the actor had dinner with two male friends at trendy Venice eatery Gjelina, where they talked quietly at one of the restaurant's communal tables.
• Lauren Conrad, holding hands with boyfriend Kyle Howard at a 30th birthday bash for club promoter Jean Paul Rodriguez at Teddy's at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. The Hills star and her man stole kisses in the privacy of their booth and were inseparable during the party. Also making the scene: Jamie-Lynn Sigler, who danced to Katy Perry's "I Kissed a Girl", Frankie Delgado, Jesse McCartney and Kevin Connolly.
• Colin Farrell, watching his novelist girlfriend Emma Forrest do a striptease burlesque number set to traditional Jewish music at Heeb magazine's "Heeb Storytelling" night at M Bar in Hollywood. Farrell sported his ladylove's Star of David necklace while partying with fellow event-goers Natalie Portman, Kate Beckinsale and Rose McGowan.
• Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder took over a dark corner of VIP-only Bar 1200 at the Sunset Marquis Hotel and Villas in West Hollywood. Reeves, dressed in jeans and a black blazer, and Ryder, wearing a black T-shirt and pants, sipped cocktails as they talked seriously. The actress, whose shoes were off, sat catty-corner from her former Dracula costar, who listened intently to her as he chain-smoked. As the night went on, the pair inched closer and closer to each other so that they ended up sitting side by side. They stayed until closing and then headed out together.

PETA has sent a letter to Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes warning them not to dress daughter Suri, 2, in fur.
Citing Giorgio Armani's use of fur coats in their baby and kids collections, Dan Matthews, the vice president of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals writes: "Please be vigilant about any packages that Armani sends for Suri, as they could include bunny fur from his toddler lines."

Though Matthews says PETA has "always admired" Cruise and Holmes' "fur-free personal style," the couple is "among the most highly visible wearers" of Armani.
"We imagine that Suri, like other children, has a natural affinity for animals, which is why we find it shocking that Armani is not only breaking his fur-free promise but also trying to lure children into fashion derived from skinned rabbits," Matthews adds.

Make room for one more on the John Mayer bandwagon!
After the singer's rousing, three-song performance at Tony Bennett's Exploring The Arts Gala in Manhattan Tuesday night, emcee Whoopi Goldberg took to the stage smiling like a teenaged girl.
"Oh my God! How cute is John Mayer?" The View host, 52, said to the cheering crowd, which included Gayle King, Regis Philbin, Terrence Howard and Quincy Jones. "In the old days, I'da snatched him up," she continued to roars of laughter. "Now, I'm too tired." Mayer's main concern was not winning female fans, however. The Grammy-winner – whose exes include Jennifer Aniston and Jessica Simpson – said he was simply "excited" by the challenge of performing with Bennett's band.
"I'm sort of a true musician at heart, in the sense that I like to be thrown [curveballs]," Mayer, 30, told PEOPLE before the show at Cipriani Wall Street. "[I like] being a producer, and then maybe going home and working on hip hop tunes, and then working on a drum machine, working on whatever the next thing is. I want to be a Swiss army knife for music!"
Mayer was also happy to show his support for Bennett's charity, which raises funds for music programs in public schools.
"There's 12-year old John Coltranes and Miles Davises walking around," he said. "They just don't know it yet."
The evening also included a speech by Katie Couric and a gut-busting standup routine by Jerry Seinfeld.

| BROADWAY CO-STAR: HOLMES WASN'T BOTHERED BY SCIENTOLOGY PROTESTORS Blog |
Katie Holmes wasn't bothered by the anti-Scientology protestors who picketed her first night of previews for Broadway's All My Sons.
"It was much more disruptive to the other theatres on the street!" John Lithgow told reporters Monday at the Metropolitan Opera's 125th season opening in NYC.
The critics have yet to weigh in on Holmes' performance, but Lithgow can't stop raving.
"Katie is lovely in the play, and she's been such a sweetheart to work with," he said. "She has worked so hard - this is a tough, tough play."
He added, "Katie is acting with thoroughbreds and she's doing a wonderful job! She's had to really push herself."
He said her husband Tom Cruise and Suri, 2, have visited her several times.
"They've been around ... a lot!" added Lithgow, who said Holmes and co-star Patrick Wilson even set up an extra dressing room "as almost a childcare center. It's very sweet!"

He said the Cruise clan is "just adorable! They are just lovely people."
Meanwhile, Variety reports that Holmes' appearance in the play helped pull in a hefty $478,235 for five performances and played to houses that averaged almost 98 percent capacity.

| TOM 'COULDN'T BE MORE PROUD' OF KATIE Blog |
Katie Holmes made her Broadway debut in the revival of Arthur Miller's All My Sons Thursday night – and her biggest fan was in the audience to cheer her on.
"I'm so proud of her," Holmes's husband, Tom Cruise, told PEOPLE before the curtain went up on the first preview at New York's Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre. (The show officially opens Oct. 16.) "This means so much to her."
Looking radiant in a royal blue 1940s -style dress, Holmes took the stage with a cast that includes Broadway vets John Lithgow, Dianne Wiest and Patrick Wilson. Originally produced in 1947 (two years before playwright Miller's masterpiece, Death of a Salesman), All My Sons tells the story of a man (Lithgow) who sells defective airplane parts to the Army, causing the death of 21 men.
His crime, which he blamed his business partner, comes back to haunt him when his son (Wilson) plans to wed his partner's daughter (Holmes).
At the end of the two-and-a-half-hour production, an enthusiastic Cruise joined the audience – which also included his Rain Man costar Dustin Hoffman – in a rousing standing ovation that lasted through three curtain calls.
Outside the theater, fans eager to get a glimpse of the Holmes mobbed the stage door. The former Dawson's Creek star left walked out casually in a black shirt and pants and happily posed for pictures.
"She should be very proud of her performance," said Hoffman. "She did a fine job."

Demonstrators from the anti-Scientology group Anonymous staged a protest during opening night of Katie Holmes’ Broadway debut on Thursday. About 20 picketers greeted theatergoes—including Holmes’ husband, Tom Cruise—outside the the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre in New York City, where Holmes is starring in All My Sons.
The group was wearing masks and shouted, “We are not boycotting Katie, we are not boycotting the play, we are protesting Scientology. It is evil. Scientology kills people. It follows you home at night. It is perverted.”
A spokesperson for Anonymous spoke to Us recently about the planned action. “We are going to be there not only in protest of The Church of Scientology,” a member of the group told Us, “we would love to see Katie Holmes get away from this evil cult before it's to late.”
All My Sons is scheduled to run on Broadway through January 11, 2009.

Katie Holmes's long-awaited Broadway debut is finally here – and Tom Cruise is by the side of his leading lady. Previews for the revival of Arthur Miller's All My Sons, in which Holmes stars with John Lithgow, Diane Wiest and Patrick Wilson, begin Thursday night at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre in New York City. After arriving in town with their daughter Suri via helicopter on Tuesday, Cruise joined Holmes at her final rehearsal Wednesday, and the pair smiled for photographers as they exited the theater arm-in-arm. Holmes's much-anticipated Broadway turn has been the talk of the town since May, when she signed on to join the production. In June at the Tony Awards, costar Lithgow told PEOPLE he was “looking forward to working with her,” and even offered some advice for making the transition from screen to stage. "She's a pro and I'd say to be herself. She's going to be wonderful." Added Tony Award-winning Broadway vet Kristin Chenoweth: "I would recommend her just to stay [healthy] and get a lot of good sleep and drink lots of water. It takes so much energy to be on stage seven days a week, so she needs a good night's sleep everyday." Splitting his time between L.A. and New York, Cruise has often been spotted taking care of Suri, 2, while Holmes has been at rehearsals. Offstage, Holmes took advantage of the sights and sounds of summer in the city, hitting the park with Suri and enjoying date nights with Cruise.

On the same day that she completed her first triathlon in Malibu, Jennifer Lopez threw a sexy surprise 40th birthday party for her husband, Marc Anthony, in New York City.
Pulling off the big bash – and keeping it a secret – took a bit of sneaky maneuvering and required Lopez to use her honed acting skills, she tells PEOPLE.
In the weeks leading up to his 40th birthday, Anthony frequently asked his wife: "What are we gonna do for my birthday?" says Lopez, 39. But she played it cool. "I told him it was such a busy weekend, that I might not be able to do anything," she says with a laugh.
In fact, Lopez had managed to plan a 1940's Cuban nightclub themed party at the Bowery Hotel. Turning on her famous work ethic, the singer-actress biked, swam and ran to a fifth place finish in the celebrity women's category at the Nautica Malibu Triathlon on Sunday – then hopped a jet to New York for the party that night.The ruse? Lopez told her husband that they were going to a dinner celebrating pal Katie Holmes's upcoming Broadway debut in All My Sons. And he didn't suspect a thing. "I can't believe we pulled it off," Lopez marvels. "He was so blown away."
The party featured burlesque dancer Dita Von Teese, a salsa orchestra, mojitos and showgirls in feather headdresses, just like at Havana's famous Tropicana nightclub. Party planner Liberty Woodman, who coordinated the event with Lopez, says, "She wanted a sexy vibe with the casino and showgirls."
The couple's friends and family danced the night away, including Brooke Shields and husband Chris Henchy. Says Shields with a laugh: "Jennifer is amazing. I did a triathlon once in college but for me a triathlon is now eating, drinking and sleeping." Adds pal Leah Remini, "The party is over the top. It's pure Jennifer."
After a night of gambling, dancing and singing (Lopez dedicated a sultry version of "My Man" to the birthday boy) the couple and their 6-month-old twins, Max and Emme, took off for a vacation to the coast of Italy and Greece.
From the yacht, Lopez raved about her little ones: "They are crawling and teething," she says. "Emme is always very calm and quiet. Max is kinda very boy. He's brawny and tough. He likes to scream and yell sometimes, and she's kinda looking at him [like], 'Hey, why are you screaming.'"

On Friday's Ellen DeGeneres Show, she agreed to fix up Ryan Seacrest after he lamented about his lackluster love life.
He said he has been "so busy" he hasn't had time to look for love.
"Yes, but you're going to wait too long and get in a rut being single," said DeGeneres, who wed Portia de Rossi this past summer.
DeGeneres then held up photos of famous women -- Pam Anderson, Britney Spears, Carrie Underwood, Eva Mendes and Jennifer Aniston -- and asked Seacrest to pick one.

He chose Mendes first.
"She's gorgeous," he said. "Yeah, I kind of went there first. I like Carrie, but then I kind of feel like she is part of the Idol thing, so I don’t know if that's the right thing to do."

"I am going to be there on opening night," the star of The Women told Usmagazine.com at Zac Posen's Fashion Week show in NYC Thursday.
"I know she is going to be fabulous," the actress added.
Holmes has been rehearsing the Arthur Miller play for months alongside co-stars John Lithgow, Dianne Wiest and Patrick Wilson.

If All My Sons's ticket sales hold up, it will rank on par with Equus, starring Daniel Radcliffe as the fall season's biggest nonmusical Broadway opening, Variety reports.

| SINGING, DANCING KATIE HOLMES IS 'PHENOMENAL,' SAYS COSTAR Blog |
Get ready to see Katie Holmes kick up her heels – and carry a tune.
"She does a song-and-dance number that is the best one we've ever done," costar Matt Letscher tells PEOPLE of Holmes's upcoming guest stint this fall on ABC's fanciful drama, Eli Stone.
"We've done tons of [musical numbers], and she was just phenomenal," Letscher said at the premiere of his new film Towelhead in L.A. on Tuesday.
Holmes, 30, who has been rehearsing in New York City for her upcoming Broadway debut in arthur Miller's All My Sons, also made a good first impression on the set.
"She's the sweetest person in the world, down to earth, simple," says Letscher. "She's just like anybody else. I met her daughter and her husband was on set. It was great."
So, is there hope she'll return for more episodes? "They've left it open," says Letscher. "I think she a had a great time, which made it easier. Everyone was welcoming and it couldn't have worked out better."

Just because he's coming to Broadway in the same season that will also see Katie Holmes and Daniel Radcliffe on the Great White Way, Shrek isn't turning green with envy – he already comes that way.
Actually, it takes boyish Broadway vet Brian d'Arcy James about two-and-a-quarter hours to slip into makeup and costume as William Steig's title ogre character in Shrek the Musical, now previewing in Seattle (where this first-look photo was taken) as it barrels toward New York.
Makeup designers Naomi Donne and Michael Marino used film-quality prosthetics to ensure James has full control over his facial expressions, according to a rep for the production, which is set to start previewing at the Broadway Theatre Nov. 8.
The show takes it story from the original book and first movie in the series, and also stars Thoroughly Modern Millie Tony winner Sutton Foster as Princess Fiona, Christopher Sieber as Lord Farquaad, Chester Gregory II as Donkey, John Tartaglia as Pinocchio and Kecia Lewis-Evans as the Dragon. – Stephen M. | DREW LACHEY TO HOST BROADWAY SEASON KICKOFF Blog |
Drew Lachey will play host to some 50,000 fans expected flock into Times Square on Sept. 14 to kick off the new Broadway season that will find Katie Holmes, Daniel Radcliffe and Haley Joel Osment coming to the Great White Way.
The second-season Dancing with the Stars champ, currently appearing in the Tony-winning musical spoof Monty Python's Spamalot, will be joined by other stars for the free Broadway on Broadway 2008 concert, according to the event's organizers, the Broadway League and the Times Square Alliance, and its presenter, Continental Airlines.
"I am delighted to be a part of the Broadway community and I love this great city," Lachey, who previously costarred in the New York production of Rent, said in a statement. "I look forward to showing the Broadway fans from New York and around the world just what we have to offer." Besides numbers from his own show, Lachey will introduce performances from the upcoming productions A Tale of Two Cities, Elton John's Billy Elliott and 13, about a New York teen forced to move to Indiana when his parents divorce.
Cast members from such established shows as Avenue Q, Grease, Gypsy, Hairspray, Jersey Boys, Legally Blonde, Mamma Mia! and Wicked will also strut their stuff – all in anticipation of the gala's grand finale: a "shower" of confetti, stretching from 43rd to 47th Streets, which will be closed to traffic.
"It is an honor to be hosting this year's "Broadway on Broadway"]," says Lachey.

Tom Cruise is gushing about wife Katie Holmes' starring Broadway role.
"Things are going really well for Katie," he told the New York Post's Liz Smith Thursday.

Cruise, 46, is even helping sell tickets to All My Sons.
"We'll see you on opening night, Sept. 18," he told Smith.
So how's Suri doing?
"She's so charming," Cruise said. "She's so beautiful; she's just great!"

Cruise and Suri aren't the only familiar faces who can't wait to see Holmes take the stage.
When asked at Monday's NYC Fringe premiere if he'll see Holmes on Broadway, former Dawson's Creek co-star Joshua Jackson told reporters: "Of course! Of course!"
Pal Victoria Beckham told Usmagazine.com earlier: "I think Katie's incredibly talented.
"I'm very proud of her to be doing this play," she added. "I'm sure it's going to be magnificent."

Asked at Monday's NYC Fringe premiere if he'll see Holmes on Broadway, he told reporters: "Of course! Of course!"
Suri, a big fan of Broadway, will also watch mom!
But he said he doesn't really keep in touch with his Creek co-stars.
"How often do you talk to your college friends?" he asked reporters. "I mean, I talk to Michelle [Williams] every once in a while. I talk to Busy [Philipps], who is just about to have a baby, every once in a while."

Meanwhile, Jackson said he recently moved in with his girlfriend, Diane Kruger, in NYC.
The biggest adjustment to playing house?
"Half of the wardrobe I lost," he told Us.
"Maybe it’s a male thing," he said, "but we are like pack rats. There was this shirt from when I was 8, and I was like 'No, I might wear that some day!'" But things like that had to go!"

Tom Cruise may only have a small part in Tropic Thunder, but her ruled the red carpet for the Los Angeles premiere.
Cruise, who donned a fat suit to play studio exec Les Grossman in the film, stayed close to wife Katie Holmes Monday night, greeting fans and only letting go of her hand to pose for a quick cast shot.
Other than the fans, fellow star were happy to see the couple – PEOPLE caught Matthew McConaughey, Ben Stiller and Jack Black all giving big hugs to Cruise. And costar Jay Baruchel told PEOPLE that Cruise is "the funniest guy in the world." Robert Downey Jr., who played an actor posing as an African-American in the film, said he just got out of character after wrapping up the DVD commentary. "The actor, in the movie, said that he never dropped character until the DVD commentary, and in keeping with being a 'method-idiot,' I'm never going to do it again," he said.
Stiller, who wrote, produced and acted in the movie, arrived with his wife Christine Taylor, who also had a cameo (She previously appeared in Stiller's Zoolander and Dodgeball.) .
"It was so much fun for us," Taylor said, adding of the third time she costarred with her husband, "I've gotten used to [it] through the years."
Later, Stiller told PEOPLE the secret to their eight-year marriage is "that it's all about mutual respect, and really being there for that other person. You can't take anything for granted."
As for Tropic Thunder facing some controversy, with Downey playing an African American and Stiller playing Simple Jack, a mentally disabled character, Stiller said simply, "It's a free country."
