LEO DICAPRIO'S MESSAGE TO THE PRESIDENT: GOING GREEN IS 'PATRIOTIC' Blog
Environmental champion Leonardo DiCaprio has a message for the incoming administration: Let's ditch our dependence on foreign oil.
"The most critical thing for the new administration is to implement an environmental policy that automatically integrates environmental issues we're all concerned about in our everyday lives," DiCaprio tells PEOPLE. "It's a moral issue and a patriotic issue, really."
The Oscar-nominated actor has worked passionately for years to promote alternative energy sources, like solar and wind power. He directed and produced the award-winning environmental documentary The 11th Hour, an appeal to action on global warming, and maintains an eco-Web site, www.leonardodicaprio.org. No matter who wins the presidential election – Barack Obama or John McCain – the new administration needs to make alternative energy sources a priority, DiCaprio says.
"We need the government to be at the forefront of this," he says. "We need to invest in renewable technologies. As much as people are stressing drilling at this point in time, we're 10 years away from seeing any of that. We have the technology here. It's readily available. Wind and solar power can make a big difference.
"That is my message. It's in our hands."

RUSSELL CROWE: I'M A 'PUSHOVER' DAD Blog
Russell Crowe is not the kind of guy to tussle with. But when it comes to being a daddy, he says that he can be a softie.
"Between my wife and myself, I'm the pushover as far as the kids are concerned," Crowe told PEOPLE Sunday at the New York premiere of his new spy thriller, Body of Lies, which also stars Leonardo DiCaprio.
"I wouldn't call myself strict as such," the actor says of his two young boys with wife Danielle Spencer. "But I have certain desires for my boys, like any parent. I want my boys to be good boys."
In Body of Lies, Crowe plays a CIA honcho who gives life or death commands to agents in the field from his cell phone in the suburbs while taking his kids to soccer practice. Like his character, Crowe says he is the kind of dad who multitasks. "Everybody who's got kids knows exactly what that drill is," he says. "When you are the father of two, and sometimes mom's got to work, you got to do it, man."
Crowe also clarified that he isn't planning his 2-year-old son's marriage to Nicole Kidman's infant daughter just yet. The actor recently joked to PEOPLE about how Kidman had told him recently that she wanted his son, Tennyson, to marry her 2 1/2-month-old daughter, Sunday Rose Urban.
When asked how likely that is, he laughed and said, "At this point in time they share a birthday. That's all they share at this time."

LEONARDO DICAPRIO HAS 'NO NEW NEWS' ABOUT MARRIAGE Blog
Leonardo DiCaprio would love to get married someday – but has no immediate plans to walk down the aisle, he told PEOPLE at Sunday's Manhattan premiere of his new spy thriller, Body of Lies.
In a widely quoted interview last week, the Oscar-nominated actor – who since 2005 has been dating Israeli model Bar Refaeli off and on – said he wanted to get married and have children, sparking a slew of media reports saying he's ready to settle down and start a family.
Clarifying his remarks, DiCaprio, 33, tells PEOPLE, "It's silly. I was asked whether I believe in the foundation of marriage, and I said, 'Of course I do.' I think it's a great thing. I absolutely believe in it and I will, but I have no announcements."
Bottom line: "There's no new news, is what I keep saying." – K.C. Baker

LEONARDO DICAPRIO MAKES A SURPRISE VISIT TO ELLEN'S SHOW Blog
Leonardo DiCaprio made a surprise visit to The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Thursday, with his latest project in hand. And no, it wasn't his newest blockbuster film. This time the politically savvy actor was promoting his new public service announcement to increase voter registration. DiCaprio worked with pals Tobey Maguire, Forest Whitaker and Will.I.Am to produce the PSA, which was filmed a week and a half ago at his home. DeGeneres opened the show and talked about receiving a call from DiCaprio inviting her to his Los Angeles home to film the commercial. "Someone bring me the DVD," Ellen asked so she could debut it for her audience. Seconds later DiCaprio strolled out onto the set. "This is really one of the most important elections of our life time and we really need to tell everyone we know to get out there and vote," DiCaprio said on the show.

LEONARDO DICAPRIO: I WANT MARRIAGE AND KIDS Blog
Once the poster child against romance – professing he feels "few emotions," has "never been in love" and "does not believe in marriage" – Leonardo DiCaprio is now singing a different tune.
"I want to get married and have children," the star of the upcoming Body of Lies and Revolutionary Road, 33, tells Parade. "In saying that, I realize I am contradicting everything I've said before. I absolutely believe in marriage."
Linked for the past two years with 23-year-old Israeli model Bar Refaeli – in a relationship that has run both hot and cold – DiCaprio says, "What I definitely feel a need for is to make my life about more than just my career. Just last night I was thinking to myself how little of my life has been lived normally and not spent on some far-off movie location." As for his declarations of the past – and shooting an arrow through Cupid's heart – he says, "No, I don't agree with any of that. It sounds like the ignorance of youth to me. When did I say that? Three or four years ago? Hey, we grow up real fast."
Looking for LoveA one-time child model and actor (Growing Pains), DiCaprio says, "My parents never tried to steer me in any direction. I wanted to be an actor, but I never thought it was a real possibility, ever. I thought I'd be a marine biologist, because nature and evolution fascinated me."
His reason for entering the profession, he admits, was because "[w]e're all after love, aren't we? Love is what people are hungry for. That's absolutely why I became an actor."
And, having starred in the most successful box-office hit of all time, 1997's Titanic, a reflective DiCaprio (who is also lamenting the recent loss of his beloved grandmother, Oma), says, "I do appreciate it. I know how lucky I am."
He adds, "I hope I never get cynical. I think you need youthful energy, excitement and optimism in life. There is a lot I want to do, and the more cynical you become, the more you sit on your butt and do nothing."
Emphasizing what he finds important, DiCaprio lists family and environment, then says, "What I want is to be known as someone who stood for something."

DiCaprio -- who appears to be back on with model Bar Refaeli -- adds, "I hope I never get cynical. I think you need youthful energy, excitement, and optimism in life.
"There is a lot I want to do, and the more cynical you become, the more you sit on your butt and do nothing," he says. "The one thing that I would love is to never become cynical about the things I think are really important, like family, like the environment."
Smiling, he adds, "What I want is to be known as someone who stood for something."
Of becoming an actor, he says, "my parents never tried to steer me in any direction. I wanted to be an actor, but I never thought it was a real possibility, ever. I thought I’d be a marine biologist, because nature and evolution fascinated me.
"We're all after love, aren't we?" he says. "Love is what people are hungry for. That's absolutely why I became an actor."
The actor says he proud of his break-through role in the 1996 epic Titanic.
See what Leonardo DiCaprio and other stars looked like before they were hunks.
"I'm grateful for the possibilities it's given me," he says. "If it hadn't been for that movie, I wouldn't have been able to take control of my career."
During that time, he says, "I started to think about things that meant more to the world than this glorified, superficial media exposure of me, something I never felt was justified."

RUSSELL CROWE: WHY I GAINED 63 LBS. Blog
From hunk to chunk!
To play a manipulative CIA boss in Body of Lies (out Oct. 10), Russell Crowe had to pack on 63 lbs.
"'I'll have the cheeseburger for breakfast, thank you,'" he recalls thinking, according to a new Extra interview. (He adds that he also had his share of Sprinkles cupcakes.)
See photos of hunky stars who gained weight.
The spy thriller marks the first time Crowe has worked with Leonardo DiCaprio since 1995's The Quick and the Dead.
"[It's] pretty much exactly the same... except [DiCaprio] can drink legally now and he's no longer a virgin," Crowe jokes of their reunion.
Crowe says he couldn't stop pranking his co-star in between takes.
"I'd wait until he was sitting in the makeup chair, and I'd walk past him and go, 'A-choo!' and I'd squirt the atomizer so just little bits of fine mist would form on his face and he’d obviously assume it was mucus."
DiCaprio laughed it off.
"I'm really happy. It's been bothering me for days," he says sarcastically.
See photos of more celebrity bromances.
Crowe also opens up about being dad to sons, Charlie, 4, and Tennyson 2.
He says boozing has taken a backseat since having kids.
"The drinking thing has sort of taken a different place in my life since I had kids," he tells Extra. "There's a whole lot of things I don't do anymore because it affects my level of patience."
He adds, "I don't want to be in that place where I'm exasperated with these beautiful children."
Of fatherhood, he says, "It's the most fantastic thing I've ever experienced. And um, it continues to get more fun and complex with every day."

Brad Pitt, dining with director Quentin Tarantino and Diane Kruger at Al contadino sotto le stelle, a
small, hip Italian restaurant in East Berlin. The group discussed their work
on Inglorious Bastards, their new movie, over dinner. But Pitt
isn't just talking about his work – he's already on the set. The day
after their business dinner, Pitt reported to Studio Babelsberg, according
to a source. While he's working on the Tarantino project, the actor and his
entire family has moved to Germany, living outside of the capital.
It was a busy, celeb-studded day at the Beverly Hills Neil George
Salon. First, Kate Beckinsale popped in for a blow-dry.
It seems that her director husband Len Wiseman had the same idea:
He dropped by the salon on his own for some services. Also at Neil George:
Kristin Cavallari, making her second stop in two days. (She had extensions done, then got her hair cut.) And later in the day, Sienna Miller stopped in for highlights, bringing along a friend for her late afternoon appointment.
File this under guys night out: Leonardo DiCaprio, hanging with Entourage's Kevin Connolly at
West Hollywood's Apple Lounge. The duo shared their table with Maroon 5
singer Adam Levine, and the guys "were enjoying being boys, and
talking and drinking," an onlooker tells us of the group. "They were having
the time of their life." Also at the nightspot: Paul Walker and
DWTS pro Cheryl Burke. That same night, Connolly and
Burke were spotted at Coco de Ville, though they never interacted. Connolly
did say hello to Brody Jenner's wingman, Frankie Delgado, though Jenner wasn't at the nightspot himself. A source
tell us that he and Delgado did have dinner together before at STK.
Rachel Bilson, making a daring style statement
while out to lunch in West Hollywood. The actress turned heads in her bright

90210 actor Adam Gregory, waiting for his car at
the valet line at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills with gaggles of
girls gawking at him. The TV star stopped by the Klipsch lounge and snapped

Also at the Four Seasons: Lionel Richie, stopping to hug
Holly Robinson Peete while leaving the dining room
after lunch. The singer whipped out his iPhone to show off a picture of
granddaughter Harlow in a baby hoodie. The table's reaction to the pic? She
is "gorgeous," according to a source.

ON 9/11, USHER, LEONARDO DICAPRIO, AND TOBEY MAGUIRE GIVE BACK Blog
Celebrities and politicians put aside their differences Thursday for a good cause.
Although they're rival presidential candidates, John McCain and Barack Obama came together for the ServiceNation forum, a non-partisan event at Columbia University. ServiceNation encourages Americans to get involved in public service. Both candidates agreed to back away from political attacks, instead discussing volunteerism, military service, and teaching.
The stars came out in full force: Usher, Leonardo DiCaprio, Glenn Close, and Tobey Maguire all showed for the nationally-televised summit.
At the opening of the program, Usher was announced as a new youth advocate for Service Nation. At least one of the candidates is a big Usher fan: McCain recently told PEOPLE that he met the singer on the set of Saturday Night Live and that he "got to like him a lot." According to his rep, DiCaprio was impressed by the call to national service.
Maguire gave a speech about the importance of service. Appearing right after New York Governor David Paterson, Maguire said the tragedy of 9/11 inspired him to give back.
"While I may play a superhero on the big screen, we all know who our real American heroes are," said the Spider-Man star. Some people in the 1,000-member audience were related to 9/11 victims.
Jon Bon Jovi will give the keynote speech today for the two-day summit.

ENTOURAGE'S KEVIN CONNOLLY RECALLS DAYS BEFORE FAME Blog
When Kevin Connolly was a struggling actor, his female entourage numbered one: Nicky Hilton.
"Here's what I always respected about Nicky: Before Entourage I was living in a one-bedroom apartment – a broke kid from Long Island – and we got together when I had nothing to offer her," Connolly tells the October issue of Playboy.
That was then. As for now, says Connolly, 34, "We're still friends, and we still hang in the same circles. But the paparazzi aren't hanging out in front of my house anymore. When I was dating Nicky one thing I said was, 'Nothing's worse than being chased by paparazzi who aren't trying to take a picture of you.' "
A product of a blue-collar upbringing, Connolly, also like his character Eric Murphy (aka "E"), moved to Los Angeles and fell in with a group of high-aspiring movers and shakers.
"We had our own fraternity," he recalls, "doing our fair share of a whole lot of nothing, hanging in our actors' flophouse in the [San Fernando] Valley with the same actor guys I hang with now: Tobey Maguire, Leonardo DiCaprio, Lukas Haas and Ethan Suplee. We lived on cheap pizza and pasta – a house of out-of-work actors trying to take care of one another. Leo was the first in our group to pop – more like explode – with an Oscar nomination at 19."Rooming with Spider-ManThen, "Just when I thought life couldn't get any weirder, I walked into Tobey's trailer and he was wearing the Spidey suit."
When it comes to how fame altered his dating life, Connolly says: "I met an attorney, about my age, and I was thinking, 'Okay, this girl is hot.' We were out for dinner, and almost the first words out of her mouth were, 'I haven't seen your show. I hope that's not a problem.' "
The social situation only grew worse. "Then, over dinner, she called me Eric three times. The first time I thought I was hearing things. The second time she definitely called me Eric. The third time I had to set her straight: 'Oh, by the way, my name's Kevin.' I showed her my license. 'So, you've never seen the show? I play a character named Eric on Entourage, which is an odd

After spending most of the night having drinks and chatting at a table in the venue's "library" with Blunt, friend Teresa Michalina and a group of male companions, the actress – sporting a striped white blouse, skinny jeans and heels – made her way hand-in-hand with Blunt to the jazz band. | KATE WINSLET: LOVE SCENES WITH LEO ARE 'A BIT WEIRD' Blog |
More than a decade since they took their Oscar-winning trip together on Titanic, Kate Winslet says Leonardo DiCaprio still floats her boat.
"I hadn't realized how much my chemistry with him since Titanic would still stick," Winslet, who stars with her former shipmate in the upcoming drama Revolutionary Road, tells Entertainment Weekly.
But the 32-year-old actress had to reset her compass during love scenes in the movie, which was directed by her husband Sam Mendes.
"I just kept saying, 'This is too ... weird,' " Winslet added. "And Leo was like, 'Oh, get over it.' And I'm going, 'Yeah, a little reminder: You're my best friend. He's my husband. This is a bit weird.' "

KATE WINSLET: SEX SCENE WITH LEONARDO DICAPRIO WAS "WEIRD" Blog
Kate Winslet was in the awkward position of shooting a sex scene with her Titantic lover Leonardo DiCaprio in the upcoming film Revolutionary Road – directed by her husband, Sam Mendes.
"I just kept saying, 'This is too... weird,'" the actress, 32, told Entertainment Weekly. "And Leo was like, 'Oh, get over it.' And I'm going, 'Yeah, a little reminder: You're my best friend. He's my husband. This is a bit weird.'"
But Winslet was pleasantly surprised by the result.
"I hadn't realized how much my chemistry with him since Titanic would still stick," she said. "It's great to discover we can just slip right into it, like muscle memory."

For his part, Mendes – her husband since 2003 – told the magazine: "I will admit it was quite bizarre to direct my wife in how to make love. But it's difficult whether you're married to a person or not."
Winslet and DiCaprio, 33 – who starred in Titanic in 1997 – play a suburban couple in the film, based on Richard Yates' 1961 novel.
"We knew that if we were going to do something again, it had to be something big and emotional," Winslet said of reuniting with DiCaprio, which she arranged. "I played this very clever cat-and-mouse game to get my husband and then my best friend involved."

LEONARDO DICAPRIO'S GRANDMOTHER DIES AT 93 Blog
Leonardo DiCaprio's maternal grandmother Helene Indenbirken has died at the age of 93.
Indenbirken passed away in a hospital in her native North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, Indenbirken's local paper, the Recklinghauser Zeitung, reports.
A cause of death has not yet been reported.
See Us' photo tribute to stars who have gone too soon.
Leo was very close to Indenbirken — the wife of a coal miner — whom he often referred to as "Oma."
The two would see each other whenever DiCaprio was in Europe (he was photographed August 4 on a yacht in Ibiza, Spain). She also accompanied him to many movie premieres, including 2005's The Aviator.
"I love spending time with her because she is gangsta, with an 'a,'" he told Vanity Fair in 2004. "She will tell people exactly what she thinks to their face."
DiCaprio told Vanity Fair his grandmother also saved his mother's life.
A toddler during World War II, his mother, Irmelin, suffered a broken leg. His grandmother nursed her back to health in a German hospital.
"All these refugees from the war and all the soldiers came into the hospital," DiCaprio told Vanity Fair. "She ended up contracting five or six major illnesses and stayed for two and a half, three years.
"My grandmother basically came every day and nursed her back to health because the nurses didn't have time."

Lauren Conrad and Hills costar Lauren "Lo" Bosworth, laughing over dinner and drinks with some gal pals at Eva Longoria Parker's restaurant Beso (co-owned by Paula Abdul's ex JT Torregiani) in Hollywood. Next, the ladies followed up dinner at Crown Bar, where they took a seat next to the deejay booth, Soon Bosworth and her friends got dancing to Katy Perry's smash "I
Kissed a Girl" and shouted lyrics along to several Madonna tunes. Conrad stayed at the table, though, focusing on an intimate face-to-face conversation with a brunet hottie – and cracked up while pointing to her dancing
compatriots.
Also at Crown Bar: Leonardo DiCaprio, sharing rounds of drinks with guy friends. The actor wore a baseball cap pulled down over his eyes – clearly trying to go incognito during his guys' night out. Meanwhile, in a booth across the bar, Paris Hilton joined sister Nicky, David Katzenberg and Casey Johnson out for the night.
Kelly Ripa, toning her abs and thighs in the "intermediate" level ballet barre class at New York's Physique 57, a favorite workout of hers.
Sarah Jessica Parker and Neil Patrick Harris, cheering on George Michael during the first night of his two-night-stand at New York's Madison Square Garden. The second night was equally star-studded: Andre Agassi, Steffi Graff and Linda Evangelista took in the show, which featured plenty of the pop star's hits including "Faith" and a saxophone-accented "Careless Whisper."
Alex Rodriguez, sitting on the rooftop bar of New York's Empire Hotel for drinks with two male companions. Casually dressed in jeans and a T-shirt, the beleaguered baseball star seemed to be picking up the table's bill and leaving.
Kate Bosworth, floating onto the patio at West Hollywood's Chateau Marmont, looking youthful and summer-appropriate in her pale, cropped denim jacket and short navy dress. After greeting a few friends, the actress sat down with her scruffy male dinner companion. At one point, British actor Jack Huston approached the table, hugged Bosworth and crouched down for a chat.
Also Spotted ... Mischa Barton, hanging very close to her rocker beau Taylor Locke at 86, a bar/lounge in L.A. At one point, the couple met up with Jonah Hill while on a smoke break outside. ... Steven Tyler, buying La Prairie eye cream in the basement level of New York's Bergdorf
Goodman.

Halle Berry, dropping by a friend's house in the Hollywood Hills for a visit. The actress rounded out her day out with a stop by the Daily Grill in downtown L.A. Even Leonardo DiCaprio needs a little pampering sometimes. The low-key actor popped into Century City, Calif.'s Blue Mercury boutique, where he picked up some Bliss Spa products including two kinds of soap – a Mammoth Minty Scrub Soap and Bliss Big Blue Bar. Adrian Grenier, indulging his inner-environmentalist – and having fun to boot. The Entourage star mingled at a green-themed bash for the new Web site EcoStiletto.com at Murano Restaurant & Lounge in West Hollywood, where the actor sampled the Italian-California-themed hors d'oeuvres and chatted up nightlife entrepreneur Sandy Sachs. Best pals Ryan Phillippe and Breckin Meyer, snagging late-night burgers at 25 Degrees, the casual restaurant inside the Hollywood Roosevelt hotel. The actor friends were there for the Room 100 magazine party inside Teddy's, where they found a tucked-away table and sat down to chat. Meanwhile, the guys from Maroon 5 had been hanging out for hours before lead singer Adam Levine arrived. And when he came, the party's mellow vibe picked up – people started dancing and cheering, an onlooker tells us.
Mom-to-be – and 24 actress – Marisol Nichols, smiling as she looked through items at L.A. baby shop Bel Bambini during an AFM Safecoat event. Says a source: "She's so excited to be a mom. She can't wait to meet her baby girl." In town for the ESPY Awards, Brett Favre stopped for dinner at Katana, a West Hollywood sushi restaurant, with his wife, family and friends. (He's not the only A-lister Tarantino is eyeing: He also plans to meet with Leonardo DiCaprio, Variety reports.)
The film is set to shoot this fall in Germany and France, where Pitt's love Angelina Jolie is resting after giving birth Saturday.
"Brad and I take turns working," Jolie has said. "So instead of it being 'I get to work next,' it's 'You have to work next, because it's your turn. I'm staying home with the kids.'"
