STARS RAISE MORE THAN $100 MILLION AT FRIDAY CANCER TELETHON Blog
Stars helped raise over $100 million at Friday's Stand Up to Cancer fundraising telethon, event organizers announced Sunday.
The show - which featured cancer survivors including Christina Applegate, Melissa Etheridge and Sheryl Crow - was broadcast simultaneously on ABC, NBC and CBS.
Funds will be dedicated to new research and the development of experimental therapies for cancer patients, according to the Entertainment Industry Foundation, the nonprofit behind the telethon.
"I dream of a future with a long, healthy life, a life not lived in the shadow of cancer but in the light," Patrick Swayze, who was diagnosed in March with pancreatic cancer, said during the broadcast.
"I dream of a day when everyone diagnosed will be fortunate to have hope… I dream the word cure will no longer be followed by the words, 'It's impossible,'" he added.
Applegate, who underwent a double mastectomy in August, talked about the importance of support while fighting the disease.
"We all need someone to accompany us on the journey," she said.
Actress Jennifer Aniston told Entertainment Tonight that Stand Up to Cancer was worth her star power.
"We have opportunities," she said of using her fame. "You have to be very careful. You have to be very specific where you use the power of your celebrity."
Lance Armstrong and Elizabeth Edwards (who's still battling an incurable form of bone cancer) appeared on the show from the U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago. From NYC's Fashion Rocks event, Beyonce, Fergie, Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey, Carrie Underwood and Miley Cyrus performed "Just Stand Up," a tune written just for the special.
Senators John McCain and Barack Obama also weighed in on the cause, offering three proposals each on how to fight cancer, the No. 2 cause of death in America.

In addition to a $25 million donation by philanthropist Sidney Kimmel, celebs also pitched in by listing set visit and walk-on roles for the next Iron Man and Spider-Man experiences on eBay.

BEYONCé SHOWS OFF $5M ENGAGEMENT RING Blog
Jay-Z sure knows how to pick the bling!
All eyes were on Beyoncé Friday night, when, for the first time, the singer publicly displayed her engagement ring on the red carpet for Fashion Rocks at Radio City Music Hall in N.Y.C.
The singer, 27, who secretly married rapper Jay-Z in April, flashed an 18 carat flawless diamond by Lorraine Schwartz, valued at more than $5 million dollars, according to the jeweler.
Neither Beyoncé nor Jay-Z have publicly confirmed their marriage but in recent weeks, Beyoncé’s younger sister Solange referred to Jay-Z as her brother-in-law during a television interview.Later in the evening, Beyoncé took off the ring for a performance where she donned a short, blonde wig in tribute to blues singer Etta James whom she portrays in an upcoming movie.
The star-studded event included appearances by Miley Cyrus, Rihanna, Mary J. Blige, Tommy Hilfiger, Hayden Panettiere, Paula Abdul, Fergie, Ciara, Natasha Bedingfield, Chris Brown, Terrance Howard, Justin Timberlake and Chace Crawford.

NATASHA BEDINGFIELD STAR-STRUCK BY BEYONCé & MARIAH Blog
Natasha Bedingfield may be selling out seats with her tour buddies New Kids on the Block, but she couldn't contain her excitement about her upcoming performance with fellow singers Mariah Carey and Beyoncé Knowles.
"I'm so giddy,” the British pop star told PEOPLE at the Fashion Rocks pre-party in New York, just after she had finished rehearsing the song for Stand Up to Cancer.
Bedingfield, who recorded the charity tune, "Just Stand Up" with Beyoncé, Mariah, Fergie, Mary J. Blige and 10 other pop vocalists, also admitted that she was expecting more diva attitudes from her collaborators."I thought maybe there'd be some fireworks, but actually everyone is just so motivated by the cause. They were all just so obliging and nice," she said. "It's actually really nice to hang out with girls in the same career."
The Stand Up to Cancer telecast airs Friday night.
