They may not be married, but Matthew McConaughey calls the mother of his child, Camila Alves, "the love of my life."
"I always wanted to be a father and thought it would be great, but it just took the right woman and the right time to make it all happen," he told PEOPLE as he unwound after running Sunday's Nike + Human Race in Austin, Texas.
(The 10-kilometer run took place on the same day in 25 cities around the globe, raising money for the Lance Armstrong Foundation, the World Wildlife Fund and NineMillion.org.)
"[Camila] is the love of my life," he said after crossing the finish line in under 44 minutes (beating his goal of 45). "Everything is right. It's all good." Post run, he and Alves – a model and handbag designer who gave birth to their son in early July – brought baby Levi to check out the Ben Harper concert. (Little McConaughey was wearing tiny jeans and – yes – a white tee shirt.)
"We're a family now," said the Surfer, Dude star. "I see the future and it's clearer to me now. Walking around with this cool responsibility all the time, it's a wonderful thing."
(He's not even two months old, but concerts are already becoming old hat to Levi. His dad took had already taken him to see a John Mellencamp show.)
"We have a little bit more prep-time put into going places and doing things, getting him ready and everything," he said while relaxing in the VIP area. "But it's amazing."

If you think Matthew McConaughey is a character, wait until you meet his mom.
In her new book, I Amaze Myself! (iamazemyself.com), Kay McConaughey dishes on everything from her son Matthew’s conception to how her husband died in a compromising position with her!
“On Monday mornings, he and I often said goodbye by making love,” Kay says exclusively in the latest issue of Us Weekly. “But one day, all of a sudden, it just happened.
"I knew that something was wrong, because I didn’t hear anything from him. Just nothing," she says. "But it was just the best way to go!”
And when her man couldn’t be revived, she made sure he was taken from the house in the buff.
“I was just so proud to show off my big old Jim McConaughey — and his gift,” she says.
The mother — who tells Us, “I would love to be on Oprah!” — also says that her most famous son, 38, was a happy accident.
It was just after she’d married Matthew’s dad for the third time.
“I was deciding, ‘Do I want to have another baby? Do I want to have an affair? Or go back to school?’” she says. “That’s when Matthew was conceived. We had tried for 16 years and no baby. So Matthew was a big surprise!”

Matthew McConaughey is getting charitable.
The new dad announced that he's auctioning off a Texas Longhorn bike built especially for him, two tickets to a University of Texas football game, autographed T-shirts and even two tickets to attend the premiere of his new flick, Surfer Dude, and hang with the star afterward.

Proceeds from the eBay sale go to McConaughey's charity, just keep livin, which promotes healthy lifestyles with kids.
"I encourage you to bid or put an item on there to support my foundation," McConaughey says. "In the meantime, and all the time, thank you and just keep livin.'"
McConaughey, 38, and girlfriend Camila Alves, 24, welcomed son Levi, on July 7.
"We are stoked and wowed by this miracle of creation and this gift from God, and so excited for the adventure that will come in raising this child, being a mother and a father, and sheparding him or her through this life," McConaughey blogged when announcing the pregnancy in January.
The actor told Entertainment Tonight he's been receiving parenting advice: "One thing I've heard that's consistent is, 'whatever plans you make, throw them out the window!'"

| CRUISE IN CONTROL ON THE RED CARPET Blog |
Tom Cruise may only have a small part in Tropic Thunder, but her ruled the red carpet for the Los Angeles premiere.
Cruise, who donned a fat suit to play studio exec Les Grossman in the film, stayed close to wife Katie Holmes Monday night, greeting fans and only letting go of her hand to pose for a quick cast shot.
Other than the fans, fellow star were happy to see the couple – PEOPLE caught Matthew McConaughey, Ben Stiller and Jack Black all giving big hugs to Cruise. And costar Jay Baruchel told PEOPLE that Cruise is "the funniest guy in the world." Robert Downey Jr., who played an actor posing as an African-American in the film, said he just got out of character after wrapping up the DVD commentary. "The actor, in the movie, said that he never dropped character until the DVD commentary, and in keeping with being a 'method-idiot,' I'm never going to do it again," he said.
Stiller, who wrote, produced and acted in the movie, arrived with his wife Christine Taylor, who also had a cameo (She previously appeared in Stiller's Zoolander and Dodgeball.) .
"It was so much fun for us," Taylor said, adding of the third time she costarred with her husband, "I've gotten used to [it] through the years."
Later, Stiller told PEOPLE the secret to their eight-year marriage is "that it's all about mutual respect, and really being there for that other person. You can't take anything for granted."
As for Tropic Thunder facing some controversy, with Downey playing an African American and Stiller playing Simple Jack, a mentally disabled character, Stiller said simply, "It's a free country."

Oh, baby!
Matthew McConaughey's girlfriend Camila Alves was in labor for 60 hours before welcoming son Levi.
"Matthew was there the entire time," Alves, 25, tells Extra. "We went 14 hours with no epidural, having contractions every two minutes. It was the best dance we ever had.”

What's the biggest lesson she learned from giving birth?
"No matter what people tell you, you have to experience it yourself," she says.
The month-old Levi made his red carpet debut Thursday at a bash for Alves' new handbag line, MUXO, at Kitson in Los Angeles. (Click here to see more photos from the party.)
"He’s straight up his father," she tells Extra of their baby boy. "He has my lips, but he looks so much like Matthew. He’s a white boy.”

Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves's son Levi is already the talk of the party.
The month-old tot – who has also been to a rock concert – was rushed by dad down the red carpet and into the launch party for Muxo, a luxury handbag collection designed by Alves and her mother, Thursday night.
"He's a very well-behaved baby," Kitson owner Fraser Ross told PEOPLE. "Camila's adorable [with him]."Levi spent the evening in a private room with a nanny, but did get several visits from mom and dad.
"Camila and her mom have been working on putting [Muxo] together for years, and then all of a sudden it's like ka-boom," McConaughey, 38, told PEOPLE. "It's great. Tonight's just about celebrating."
The support for Alves, 25, was shared, as was congratulations. "We are here for Camila, and for the baby," said friend and designer Christian Audigier. "We have not given her the present yet. We will give it to her tonight. It's a surprise, I cannot tell you."

Matthew McConaughey's month-old son Levi made his red carpet debut on Thursday.
Along with his proud pop and mother Camila Alves, the tot attended a bash for Alves' new handbag line, MUXO, at Kitson in L.A.
McConaughey, 38, walked straight through the red carpet, carrying the baby (who was nestled in a car seat covered with a plush yellow blanket) and took him inside.
"[Levi] was gonna stay home, but then he said, 'Dad, mom, I wanna go support mom's purses!'" Matthew joked with Entertainment Tonight. "At 30 days old, he's talking about stuff like that!"

At 9:40 p.m. Matthew came out from the back of the store and mentioned to a friend that Alves, 25, was “feeding the baby.”
After having a glass of red wine and chatting with pals, he left the bash (with Alves, Levi and a nanny) around 10:05 p.m.

It wasn't the baby's first big outing.
In a two-part interview on CNN's House Call with Dr. Sanjay Gupta (airing Aug. 9 and Aug. 16), McConaughey reveals that they took their son to a recent John Mellencamp concert.
Dad says his son "is equipped to be around the sights and sounds of people."

Matthew McConaughey and girlfriend Camila Alves aren't going to let a little thing like a newborn slow them down.
"We took Levi to a John Mellencamp concert," the actor, who welcomed his first son on July 7, tells CNN's House Call with Dr. Sanjay Gupta for a show airing in two parts, Aug. 9 and Aug. 16.
McConaughey, 38, says he and Alves, 25, take Levi everywhere so he's "equipped to be around the sights and sounds of people" – which also makes life better for the new parents.
"Everyone talked about how, oh, you have a kid, life changes, it's like 180 degrees on a dime full stop, wow," he says. "And a lot of them had an insinuation under that like, you have to stop living your life as you live it. That hasn't been the case."
Keeping Levi on the move "takes a little more prep time to do whatever it is you're going to do," McConaughey says. "And especially with Camila breastfeeding every three hours, she can't be away from the child. So she's got to be there."
McConaughey says the birth took a long time but "it went down perfectly.""Even though we went 60 hours to do what could have been done in a few hours, it was a great journey for both of us and her and I now have gone through something that – we call it the best dance we've ever had," he says. "We've gone through something that we're like, I know and you know and only you and I know and that's good for us."
McConaughy says they also stored the umbilical cord (and its vital stem cells) and kept the placenta, which they plan to bury in an orchard, following an Australian aboriginal custom he discovered during a visit there.
"They had a placenta tree that was on the river, and it was for the women, and it was the most fertile land and fertile river," he says. "And all the placentas of all that tribe, all that clan ... went under that one tree, and it was this huge behemoth of just health and strength. And this tree was just growing taller and stronger above the rest of Mother Nature around it. It was gorgeous."

Tropic Thunder director and star Ben Stiller has opened up about pal Owen Wilson's suicide attempt last August.
"It's impossible to understand that kind of pain – depression or anything like that – until you're in it," Stiller tells Playboy in the August issue of the magazine.
"I love Owen," he says of his Royal Tenenbaums co-star. "I felt bad that he had to deal with all the outside bulls--t."

Stiller, 42, also reveals that he was "blown away" by Tropic Thunder co-star Robert Downey Jr.
"I started trying to copy him," the comic says. "It was like, 'Wow, this guy's a genius; maybe if I do what he does, I'll be a genius too!'"
Stiller jokes: "If he had spun around and thrown oat bran at the moon, I'd have run out, bought some oat bran and started spinning. I want to look like I'm as big a genius as he is."
Tom Cruise's anticipated role as a studio chief – for which he wore a fat suit – in Tropic Thunder was his own idea, Stiller says.
"It wasn't even in the script," Stiller says. "I didn't have to persuade him."
The actor tells Playboy that "people would rather dwell on somebody else's problems than look at their own" – and revealed he's just like Us!
"Do I want to pick up a copy of U.S. News & World Report or grab Us Weekly?" he asks. "If I'm in a checkout line, I'll take the one with the big pictures."
So is there a line of humiliation that the jokester won't consider?
"I think I'd draw the line at porn, but no one has asked," Stiller tells Playboy.
Tropic Thunder opens August 13.

Matthew McConaughey has gone from Sexiest Man Alive to barbe-cutie.
The 38-year-old actor – and new dad – is extolling the virtues of red meat as the new spokesman for the National Cattleman's Beef Association's "Powerful Beefscapes" campaign.
"Discover the power of protein in the land of lean beef," McConaughey says in new radio spots that end with the familiar tagline, "Beef: It's what's for dinner."
In another spot, he says, "You see those hickory smoke signals? That's a sure sign it's grilling season."
Why McConaughey? Megan Pusey of the beef association tells PEOPLE that he embodies the meat's best qualities: "Passion, protein, strength."
