Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise, stepping out in sync – both dressed in gray blazers – for dinner at Italian restaurant Il Valentino in midtown Manhattan. Perhaps the outing was a celebration for Holmes's success in the Broadway show All My Sons? The drama, which is running in previews, officially opens Oct. 16.
Nicole Richie, having a late lunch with 8-month-old daughter Harlow at the Beverly Hills Hotel's Polo Lounge. The new mom, who sported a red floral-printed shirt and jean shorts and wore her hair partially pulled back, dined with an unidentified older woman and nibbled on the McCarthy chopped salad between playing with her little girl. She and her companion smiled and cooed over Harlow throughout their meal.
Owen Wilson, making a late-night pit stop at one of his favorite haunts, Venice, Calif., bar The Other Room. Dressed casually in jeans, a T-shirt and a dark flannel button-down, he made his way to the back of the very crowded venue and laughed with a male friend over a drink at the bar. Wilson welcomed several fans who stopped by to say hello before leaving inconspicuously after only 20 minutes. A couple of days later, the actor had dinner with two male friends at trendy Venice eatery Gjelina, where they talked quietly at one of the restaurant's communal tables.
Lauren Conrad, holding hands with boyfriend Kyle Howard at a 30th birthday bash for club promoter Jean Paul Rodriguez at Teddy's at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. The Hills star and her man stole kisses in the privacy of their booth and were inseparable during the party. Also making the scene: Jamie-Lynn Sigler, who danced to Katy Perry's "I Kissed a Girl", Frankie Delgado, Jesse McCartney and Kevin Connolly.
Colin Farrell, watching his novelist girlfriend Emma Forrest do a striptease burlesque number set to traditional Jewish music at Heeb magazine's "Heeb Storytelling" night at M Bar in Hollywood. Farrell sported his ladylove's Star of David necklace while partying with fellow event-goers Natalie Portman, Kate Beckinsale and Rose McGowan.
Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder took over a dark corner of VIP-only Bar 1200 at the Sunset Marquis Hotel and Villas in West Hollywood. Reeves, dressed in jeans and a black blazer, and Ryder, wearing a black T-shirt and pants, sipped cocktails as they talked seriously. The actress, whose shoes were off, sat catty-corner from her former Dracula costar, who listened intently to her as he chain-smoked. As the night went on, the pair inched closer and closer to each other so that they ended up sitting side by side. They stayed until closing and then headed out together.

| KATE HUDSON EXPOSES HER DATING DISASTER Blog |
Trying to sweep Kate Hudson off her feet? Try taking her out for miniature golf – but whatever you do, don't be boring.
The actress shared some of her best and worst dating moments Monday at a press conference for her new comedy, My Best Friend's Girl, opening Sept. 19.
"One date, I just left before we even ordered food because the guy was just so deeply boring that it was like, 'I'm going to just save us from all of this and just leave,' " said Hudson, 29, adding that her date "was in banking. I'm not kidding."
Instead, the actress suggests other ways to get her motor running. "I like to be surprised [with] something fun or something different, like racing cars ... or miniature golf or something," Hudson told PEOPLE later at her film's premiere. "If you're going to go on a date, do it right, you know?"
Hudson's romantic life has been star-studded – she was married to Chris Robinson and has been involved with Owen Wilson and Lance Armstrong. But after a tough day on the job, the actress says it's her family (including son Ryder, 4) and friends that keep her grounded.
"In order to deal with [everything], I just once again go back to my life at home with my family, my son and my friends," she said. "It makes everything okay. It makes everything feel more balanced." | KATE HUDSON: MY LOVE LIFE "BETTER OFF PRIVATE" Blog |
It's no wonder Kate Hudson always refused to talk about her romance with Lance Armstrong. (The two recently called it quits after three months.)
"I’ve learned that things are better left private until you’re actually planning the wedding,” Hudson, 29, tells September's W.
See photos of other stars who are spending the summer single.
The actress — who also dated Owen Wilson since splitting with ex Chris Robinson in 2006 — insists it's not easy keeping all the lovey-dovey details to herself.
“It’s so hard for me, because I’m so open, to hold back," she says. "I could really just go on forever about this stuff.
"We can talk about Chris till the dogs come home. I married Chris, I had a baby with Chris, Chris will be in my life for the rest of my life," she adds.
Can you believe these couples hooked up?
She says she has no regrets about spending her 20s tending to son Ryder, 4, instead of hitting the clubs.
“Am I gonna look back and say, 'God, I wish I could have gone to that... that... concert?" Hudson asks. "I’d rather be listening to my son sing songs. I’d rather be watching him sleep.”
She also revealed the downside to her free-spirited personality.
“I have this thing where it’s like, okay, I’ve chosen to bungee jump off this ledge. I have to do it," Hudson says. "And if the cord snaps, well, I might as well enjoy the ride down.”

| BEN STILLER SPEAKS OUT ON OWEN WILSON'S INNER PAIN Blog |
They may be all laughs together on the silver screen, but when it comes to friend Owen Wilson's attempted suicide last year, Tropic Thunder star Ben Stiller is gravely serious.
"I love Owen, and I felt bad that he had to deal with all the outside bulls--," the comic actor, 42, tells Playboy in its August issue. "It's impossible to understand that kind of pain – depression or anything like that – until you're in it."
On a cheerier note, Stiller admits to idolizing costar Robert Downey Jr. on the Thunder set. "Because I was so blown away by the guy, I started trying to copy him," he says. "It was like, Wow, this guy's a genius; maybe if I do what he does, I'll be a genius too!"
And as for leading-man Tom Cruise, who does an unflattering turn as a bald studio head in Tropic Thunder, Stiller was impressed with his enthusiasm.
"The role was his idea," he says. "It wasn't even in the script. I didn't have to persuade him."

| BEN STILLER: OWEN WILSON'S PAIN "IMPOSSIBLE TO UNDERSTAND" Blog |
Tropic Thunder director and star Ben Stiller has opened up about pal Owen Wilson's suicide attempt last August.
"It's impossible to understand that kind of pain – depression or anything like that – until you're in it," Stiller tells Playboy in the August issue of the magazine.
"I love Owen," he says of his Royal Tenenbaums co-star. "I felt bad that he had to deal with all the outside bulls--t."
(Matthew McConaughey replaced Wilson in Tropic Thunder.)
(See photos of other Hollywood Bromances.)
Stiller, 42, also reveals that he was "blown away" by Tropic Thunder co-star Robert Downey Jr.
"I started trying to copy him," the comic says. "It was like, 'Wow, this guy's a genius; maybe if I do what he does, I'll be a genius too!'"
Stiller jokes: "If he had spun around and thrown oat bran at the moon, I'd have run out, bought some oat bran and started spinning. I want to look like I'm as big a genius as he is."
Tom Cruise's anticipated role as a studio chief – for which he wore a fat suit – in Tropic Thunder was his own idea, Stiller says.
"It wasn't even in the script," Stiller says. "I didn't have to persuade him."
The actor tells Playboy that "people would rather dwell on somebody else's problems than look at their own" – and revealed he's just like Us!
"Do I want to pick up a copy of U.S. News & World Report or grab Us Weekly?" he asks. "If I'm in a checkout line, I'll take the one with the big pictures."
So is there a line of humiliation that the jokester won't consider?
"I think I'd draw the line at porn, but no one has asked," Stiller tells Playboy.
Tropic Thunder opens August 13.

| OWEN WILSON READY TO HEAD BACK TO WORK Blog |
Six months after his apparent suicide attempt, Owen Wilson is ready to act again.
The 39-year-old is starring in Marley & Me, a comedy about a writer who adopts a mischievous dog. The film, which costars Jennifer Aniston as Wilson’s wife, is scheduled to be shot in Miami from March 10 until mid-May.
"I'm thrilled they're starting production on this. It's been a long time coming and I really couldn't be happier on that," Marley & Me author John Grogan tells PEOPLE. "I read the script and I like it. I think it's really true to the book."
Grogan is equally excited about the casting. "I'm actually really thrilled to have Owen Wilson portray me. We don't look anything alike but I think his personality will be a great fit to my own," he says. "And my wife, Jenny, is thrilled with being played by Jennifer Anniston and so am I. What's not to like, right?"
Wilson's been keeping a relatively low profile, and this marks the first time Wilson has worked since the crisis that landed him at Los Angeles' Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
In September, the actor dropped out of the Ben Stiller-directed comedy Tropic Thunder and was replaced by Matthew McConaughey.
Miami is a familiar city to Wilson – he vacationed in South Beach with Woody Harrelson after the two returned from some male bonding in South America.
Marley & Me is scheduled to be released on Christmas Day. |
