DREW BARRYMORE OPENS UP ABOUT JUSTIN LONG
26.02.2008 23:27
Keeping in constant character for the role of Jackie Kennedy's eccentric cousin Edie Beale in HBO's upcoming Grey Gardens, Drew Barrymore refers to her real-life boyfriend Justin Long not by his name, but by the Edie-like label of "gentleman caller."
Tracking the relationship between the actress-producer and the "Mac" in the Apple computer commercials, the March issue of Vogue, reports that the two knew each other for seven years before becoming serious.
Asked for his immediate reaction to what he thinks of when it comes to Barrymore, Long – who helped Drew celebrate her 33rd birthday this month – responds, "Beauty and light, and she shines it on everybody who comes into contact with her."
As for her reaction to Long, a perennially smiling Barrymore says, "My cheeks hurt, I'm so happy." Adds Long, 29: "She makes my cheeks hurt, too."
Past Not Up to Speed
It wasn't always so. While Barrymore considers herself secure in terms of dealing with her profession and her friendships, as far up-close-and- personal relationships are concerned, "for some reason, I have not grown up to the speed I am elsewhere," she says.
Having twice walked down the aisle, Barrymore – who, exactly a year ago at this time, insisted she was happy to be single – and first husband, bar owner Jeremy Thomas, split after five weeks, while her marriage to gross-out comedian Tom Green lasted five months before he filed for divorce.
Those in Barrymore's circle approve of the Vassar-educated Long, says Vogue. Nancy Juvonen, Barrymore's production-company partner in Flower Films, says, "I do feel she is finally with a good person. She is with someone who adores her and doesn't put her down on any level ... And that is such a departure." |

WHERE WERE BRAD AND ANGELINA ON OSCAR NIGHT?
26.02.2008 23:25
The day after unveiling her baby bump at the Film Independent's Spirit Awards, Angelina Jolie spent Oscar night at home, relaxing.
Jolie, 32, and Brad Pitt, 44, were at home in Los Angeles with the kids and enjoyed the relative peace and quiet, a source tells PEOPLE.
Though neither was at the Oscar ceremony, their absence didn't stop the show's host, Jon Stewart, from including Jolie in a joke about pregnant actresses, saying, "Obviously, Angelina Jolie couldn't be here – it's hard to find 17 babysitters on Oscar night."
The growing Jolie-Pitt brood currently includes Maddox, 6, Pax, 4, and Zahara, 3, and Shiloh, 1. A source close to the couple says they are "thrilled to be adding to their brood." |

THE MILEY AND MANDY SHOW
26.02.2008 23:22
Miley Cyrus has a hit show, Hannah Montana, on the Disney Channel — and now she’s branched out to YouTube!
The 15-year-old released a silly video called The Miley & Mandy Show with pal Mandy Jiroux, a dancer on her Best of Both Worlds Tour, on YouTube Sunday.
In the nearly five-minute clip, the girls — in sweatpants and T-shirts — make funny faces into the camera, dance to Janet Jackson’s “Feedback,” do headstands and even point to a boy in a magazine can ask, “Can you say irresistible?”
At the end of the clip, credits flash thanking the Jonas Brothers (Cyrus was linked to Nick Jonas at one point, but told Us she was single) for using their song.
This won’t be the only performance Cyrus is involved in: She’ll also host the live CMT Awards with dad Billy Ray on April 14.
“Miley and I are so excited,” Billy Ray, 46, said in a statement released Tuesday. “We know it will be a fun-filled night with a lot of great music performances.”
Cyrus, 15 — who recently adopted Ray as her middle name in honor of her father — will also perform a song with her pop.
Us Power Girl Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood and Toby Keith will also perform on the show, which airs live April 14 on CMT from Belmont University’s Curb Event Center in Nashville, Tennessee. |

FIVE DATES WITH HILARY, JODIE, REBECCA, CALISTA AND ...
26.02.2008 23:13
It’s only early November and our calendar was already filling up weeks before the party-heavy holiday season. But when your fellow party guests include Hilary Swank, Jodie Foster, Rebecca Romijn and Calista Flockhart, how could we send our regrets on any invitation? First up was an evening honoring Oscar winner Swank, where Hollywood.com’s Joel Stratte-McClure shared the inside story:
A Swank Soiree
Why was Hilary Swank the only award recipient at an elegant and intimate presentation at the Hotel Bel-Air on Thursday night? And what did she do to merit a prestigious Time for Peace Film and Music Award?
Turns out that the actress, attired in a black Christian Dior dress complemented by the charitable coif created by Oprah Winfrey, missed the official award presentation in Paris last June. That prompted the French organizers and a Swiss sponsor to host a cocktail party and gourmet dinner that included 50 Swank friends and virtually no other celebrities.
“This very special award is determined by a jury that includes 26 ambassadors to the United Nations and Hilary deserves to receive it in the best venue in LA with her chosen guests,” said Nice-born Robert Einbeck, who co-founded the Time for Peace Awards with his wife Marion in 1994. “Her inspirational performance in the extraordinary Freedom Writers embodies humanist values that promote tolerance and better understanding between people everywhere.”
He wasn’t the only fan. Freedom Writers writer/director Richard LaGravenese, who also directs Swank in next month’s comedy P.S., I Love You, sang her praises during a cocktail reception.
“This award illustrates that Freedom Writers, which is based on a true story and took me six years to make, had an impact in the real world beyond Long Beach,” said LaGravenese, who was accompanied by producer Stacy Sher. “It underlines that Hilary’s instincts were right when she insisted, years after we first discussed it, that she have a lead role that she felt would inspire students and teachers everywhere.”
The slender Swank, who donated over nine inches of her hair to the American Cancer Society last week, took it all in her athletic and compassionate stride.
Hilary Swank and Richard LaGravenese
“It’s delightful to give back and help others, whether it means cutting my hair for a woman in need or making a movie that confronts issues of inequality and injustice,” said Swank, wearing Neil Lane diamonds and carrying a Mary Norton bag. “Freedom Writers is an entertaining movie that talks about something really important and shows that one person can change things. And it’s great to be given an award that puts me in the distinguished company of past winners like Steven Spielberg and Ed Zwick.”
Then she entered the dining room and sat at the head table with LaGravenese, Sher, the Einbecks and presumed husband-to-be John Campisi. “There’s too much family in this room,” Swank joked loudly before LaGravenese took the stage and introduced his leading lady as “an artist, a woman and a spirit who embodies hope in every breath she takes.”
An emotional Swank, who spent a month alone in India to teach kids the alphabet after making Million Dollar Baby, brushed away a tear as she arrived at the podium. “I’m a wreck after all of the nice things you said, Richard,” an emotional Swank began. “And I want you to know that I love you and will work with you again and again without even reading the script.”
“I’m blessed that I was chosen to bring this inspiring story to life and join other giants in this industry who use the broad reach of films and music to confront social and political problems,” continued Swank, as she gently put the gargantuan award on the floor. “I definitely want to recognize Ellen Gruwell and the students for setting an example for us all and I’m proud to accept this award on their behalf.”
“As Freedom Writers demonstrates, it is well within our grasp to touch one person, to do one right thing, to let go of fear and to be compassionate,” Swank concluded. “All of us in our own small way can turn on a small light in a dark room and create brightness and hope.” |

JULIAN SCHNABEL ON SON 21 DATING ELLE MACPHERSON 44
26.02.2008 23:08
Age ain't nothin' but a number, says Oscar-nominated Diving Bell and Butterfly director Julian Schnabel.
Blogs were recently abuzz when his 21-year-old son, Vito, began dating model Elle Macpherson, 44.
But Schnabel told Usmagazine.com at Sunday's Oscars, "They’re hanging out. It’s not like he’s smuggling heroin across the border! It’s not a big deal."
Schnabel recently made headlines after he was heckled by a drunk Sean Young at an awards show.
He later cracked to Us, "I didn’t have anything interesting to say anyway, so I should beg her to come with me wherever I go!"
When Macpherson was asked if she's dating Schnabel, she told Access Hollywood, "No, I am not. Sorry. I never talk about my personal life but in this particular case, because he is nearly underage, I have to deny it because there is nothing else to do except deny it." |

WHY BRAD RENFRO WAS CUT FROM OSCAR TRIBUTE MONTAGE
26.02.2008 23:06
Why was late actor Brad Renfro cut from the video tribute at Sunday’s Oscars?
“It was really an editing decision because we can’t fit everyone in,” a rep for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences tells Usmagazine.com. “There was no specific reason.”
The montage featured footage of late actors, including Heath Ledger, who passed away a week after Renfro.
Renfro died of a heroin overdose in his L.A. home January 15.
The actor made his big film debut, opposite Susan Sarandon, in 1994’s The Client. His film credits include Sleepers, Apt Pupil and the acclaimed independent film Ghost World. |

26.02.2008 23:06
Madonna was up past 4 a.m. this morning rubbing shoulders with the likes of Demi Moore and Tom Cruise at her exclusive Oscar after-party at Guy Oseary's Beverly Hills home.
A few hours later, she was chilling with a different crowd: The Material Girl, 49, is on jury duty.
Clad in a brown Juicy Couture sweat suit over an Ed Hardy shirt, she arrived at the Beverly Hills Courthouse this morning.
She downed an omelet for breakfast, says a source.
Madonna was overheard saying she “got three hours of sleep last night,” the source tells Usmagazine.com.
The singer even had to lay down for a bit today.
Adds the source, “She is so exhausted.” |

As for her heavily beaded Valentino gown, Clooney claimed credit. "I'm a seamster!" he told Us. "The ironing of the beads works very well. I sewed all the beads back on myself."

SHAR JACKSON CALLS BRITNEY SPEARS REUNION WITH BOYS
26.02.2008 22:55
Shar Jackson is happy Britney Spears has reunited with her boys.
"I believe that kids need their parents and parents need to be with their kids," she told Usmagazine.com at the Night of 100 Stars party at the Beverly Hills Hotel Saturday night. "It is a good thing."
On Saturday afternoon, Spears' boys, Sean Preston, 2, and Jayden James, 17 months, popped by her Beverly Hills, California, home, for nearly three hours after Kevin Federline agreed to restore her visitation rights. (She hadn't seen her boys in seven weeks since she was hospitalized at the UCLA Medical Center.)
Federline's counsel Mark Vincent Kaplan tells Us the reunion "couldn’t have happened without" the help of Spears' father, Jamie.
"We were able to get it to a point where everyone was comfortable,” Kaplan tells Us.
“We’re just very positive about it. Having her dad [Jamie Spears] stabilizing everything is a good thing."
Kaplan called Saturday's reunion "a major step," adding that “the goal” for the pair to share joint custody again.
“Whether that happens or not, I don’t know,” Kaplan tells Us, “but Kevin would love to be able to have a parenting partner in helping to raise these kids.” |
